The Big E 2023: The largest event on the East Coast

The Big E is an annual celebration of the season which takes place on the East Coast of the United States. The celebration is the largest event on the East Coast, welcoming close to 1.5 million people, who travel to the Eastern States Exposition grounds for the grandest fair in New England. The event features a range of concerts, a circus spectacular, car shows, daily and Mardi Gras parades and more. 

This year’s edition of The Big E will feature a star-studded concert lineup of local and international talent.

Where to watch The Big E

The Big E takes place at the Eastern States Exposition Grounds in Springfield, Massachusetts. You can find the event at 1305 Memorial Ave, West Springfield, MA 01089, USA.

Big E Tickets

Admission starts at $15 for adults and $10 for children aged 6-12. Children 5 and under can enter for free. You can also purchase value passes, which grants you access to all 17-days of the event; available for $40 for adults and $20 for children. Gate discounts are also available.

Admission on opening day is only $10 for all ages. You can also get ‘six-after-five’ tickets, which grants you admission after 5 pm for only $6 (Monday – Thursday). Seniors can also purchase tickets for only $12 (Monday – Thursday)

How to get around Springfield

The city of Springfield and The Big E is easily accessible by car and public transport. Parking is available at the event on the grounds at Gate 9. Parking starts at $5 for motorcycles and $10 for cars; cash only. You can also travel to and from the event via bus and train. Official event shuttles will be available, transporting visitors between Springfield’s Union Station and the event grounds.

Visitors traveling via the CTrail and Amtrak lines can travel to Union Station in downtown Springfield, where free shuttles will be available to transfer visitors to the event. If you are traveling from nearby major cities such as Boston, you can take advantage of Boston’s bus-pooling platform ‘Skeddaddle’. Rides to The Big E from Boston will take place every Sunday from Downtown and riders will receive discounted Fair admission.

Where to stay in Springfield

Camping spots are open to campers at The Big E, starting at $20 per space, per day. A limited number of spaces are available for self-contained camper units and spots are allocated on a first-come, first-serve basis. You can also find countless accommodation options located nearby, as well as throughout the city of Springfield.

The nearest hotels are Lily’s Lodge and Regency Inn & Suites, located adjacent to the Eastern States Exposition Grounds.

Things to do in Springfield

The city of Springfield features a number of things to see and do. One of the city’s most popular attractions is the Dr Seuss National Memorial Sculpture Garden, a national park that honours Dr Seuss. The city of Springfield is the birthplace of Dr Seuss and the hometown shares great pride in his work.

You can also find the basketball hall of fame, featuring sculptures, artefacts and sights of the best in the NBA. Nearby, you can also find Forest Park, one of the largest parks in New England and home to a zoo, amphitheatre, garden, pool trails and more.

Other popular attractions include the Springfield Science Museum, The Paramount Theatre, Symphony Hall and the Springfield Armory National Historic Site.
