Psy Fi 2019: Seed of Science

Psy Fi is a unique psychedelic trance festival that takes place Leeuwarden in the north of the Netherlands. The four-day event offers a unique experience made up of music, art and workshops. Visitors can enjoy a broad music program featuring acoustic performances, fire and laser shows, live art, theatre performances and more. Now in its 7th year, the 2019 edition will be centred around the theme ‘seed of science’.

Psy Fi festival is one of the biggest psytrance festivals in Europe, annually drawing a large variety of music and a range of music and talent. The festival features 4 musical stages, as well as a number of art spaces. The main stage is a sacred space situated right on the beach surrounded by the forest. Headlining the main stage will be Ace Ventura, Astrix, Behind Blue Eyes, Captain Hook, Eat Static, Goa Jonas, Liquid Soul and many more.

The Freak Floor is a melting pot for freaky tunes and will run 24/7 throughout the event. You can catch the likes of Alpha, Anubis, Back to Mars, Cosmic Spiral, Daash, Philoso and many more on this stage. The chill out area is the perfect place to relax and enjoy the best of psytrance; here you can find Atyya, Charlesthefirst, Jade Cicada, Kalya Scintilla and many more. Finally, the 4th floor will showcase extended sets by various psychedelic techno artists. The 4th floor lineup features artists such as D-Nox, MVMB, DJ Mimics, Liquid Ross and more.

Psy Fi takes place at De Groene Ster in Leeuwarden. You can find the event at De Groene Ster, 8926 XE Leeuwarden, Nederland. 

How to get around Leeuwarden

Located in the northern region of the Netherlands, the nearest major airport is Amsterdam Schiphol Airport; which is just over an hour away. The easiest way to get around the Netherlands is via intercity train or bus. Trains connect Leeuwarden to many major cities around the Netherlands. Ground transportation such as coach services also frequently pass through the city. When getting around the city, everything is accessible on foot; however, local buses are also available. 

The festival is easily accessible by public transport. There is no parking available on site or near the event area so it is highly recommended to arrive via public transport or rideshare/drop-offs. You can take the train to Leeuwarden Central Station, where the festival shuttles will transfer you to the festival grounds. You can also book direct airport transfers from Schiphol Airport. If you are travelling from outside of the Netherlands, there are a number of partnered travel companies offering travel packages from France and Belgium, as well as a number of cities around Germany. Taxis are also readily available throughout the city and can drop guests off close to the festival entrance. 

Where to stay for Psy Fi

There are two campsites located on-site; north side and south side camping. Both campsites are open from August 26 until September 3, giving visitors more than a whole week to enjoy the magical location. You can bring your own tent and camping supplies, or reserve a pre-setup tent. KarTents are available at Psy Fi; 100% recyclable cardboard tents. You can also reserve a festipi for a more luxurious alternative. The campgrounds are fully equipped with 80 hot and cold showers, 50 flushing toilets and 300 eco dixie toilets; as well as a number of water points and electrical charging points. 

There are also a number of hotel and Airbnb options located within the vicinity of the event. The nearest hotel options include Bungalowverhuur, Studio Stee van Ypey and Alddiel B&B; all located just a short drive from the festival grounds. Things to do in Leeuwarden

The city of Leeuwarden features a range of things to see and do. One of the most popular attractions is the Frisian Museum; showcasing a local history collection and temporary exhibits. Nearby, you can also find Oldehove, a leaning unfinished church tower in the medieval centre of the city. You can also find the Ceramics Museum of Princesshof in the medieval centre. Other popular attractions include Aquazoo Friesland, a zoo featuring animal exhibits, aquatic mammals and play areas; and De Alde Feanen National Park, a nature reserve and popular boating spot featuring lakes and wetlands and a range of recreational activities.
