Magnetic Fields Festival is a 3-day festival in a stunning palace in Rajashtan, India where people gather for a celebration of music, culture and dance and this year’s theme is “Illumination”. There are several designated areas set up for your enjoyment. There are three main stages, the Budx South Stage is favored for live music and electronica while the Red Bull Music Stage North is set up with dancing in mind and the Renault Desert Oasis is set up as a peaceful place in the sands.

There are also other designated areas like the Magnetic Sanctuary which focuses on ancient knowledge of wellness and shows festival goers how to use it in real life, they even have a safe space area set up for emotional care called Tatva. The Souk Market gets set up for Indian boutique vendors and is also used for accommodation for those vendors. Something unique about this festival is that it has set up a sort of barter system where a free pass is given in exchange for a ‘gift/offering/activity’ as contribution to the festive, you will also get a free Pitch Your Own Tent pass – this means you can bring your own tent and stay for no cost.”

This can look like a workshop, yoga classes, a performance, body art ect… You cannot bring outside food or drink but it is available for purchase inside the festival. There is also a zero tolerance for illegal drugs being bought, sold and taken which makes Magnetic Fields a  family friendly event – kids under 12 even get in free.

How to get around Shekawati

The easiest way to get to this incredible experience is by train, once you arrive at the palace for the festival, you don’t need to go anywhere else. You can also drive there however, there is a parking fee.

Where to stay for Magnetic Fields Festival

Magnetic Fields provides two different camping options for festival goers (bring your own or rent one from the event) and if you want to splurge, it is even possible to get a palace room.

It is suggested to stay on site as the palace is super remote and can be a pain in the ass to come and go each day.

Things to do in Rajasthan

There are other really fun ways to experience Rajasthan besides the festival. You can go zip-lining, go on safari, or take a hot air balloon ride. Take a wander around Abhaneri Step Well or, if you’re not easily frightened, through Bhangarh Fort which is tough to be one of the most haunted places in India.

There are other forts to explore too, Mehrangarh Fort – one of the largest in India, Umaid Bhawan Palace – one of the largest private homes in the world, Nahargarh Fort, Kumbhalgarh Fort, Chittorgarh Fort and the City Palace Complex. You can go trekking through the desert on horses, camels or elephants or visit the Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary and the Desert National Park or go shopping at the Johri Bazaar for some incredible hand-made jewelry. There are also loads of museums to visit to learn about the local culture and history.
