Head banging to metal on a cruise ship? At first, it may not seem like the ideal environment for a metal music festival. But the geniuses behind 70000 Tons of Metal found a way not just to make it work – they saw an opportunity to create the most unforgettable celebration of metal out of a novel idea. Festival goers get a chance to party it up like a rock star aboard a luxurious cruise ship while over 60 of the world’s best metal bands play over the course of five days at sea. The inaugural voyage took place in 2011 aboard the Royal Caribbean MS Majesty of the Seas, where over 2,000 attendees from 49 countries attended. Today, 70000 Tons of Metal is a bucket-list event for metal heads around the world. The festival has been covered by international news and music outlets through the years including CNN, Rock Hard, Metal Hammer, and many more. It has achieved the reputation of being the ultimate heavy metal cruise, and you’d be sorely missing out if you don’t go. And before you think this is going to be a five-day sausage fest, think again: attendees bring their wives along too, so it’s actually a really good and fun mix of people you’ll be sharing the revelries with at sea.
The cruise sails out of Fort Lauderdale in Florida, and takes you to some of the most beautiful beach destinations nearby such as beaches in Mexico or the Caribbean. Festival goers get to indulge in the ship’s luxurious amenities between dozens of live shows that take place both day and night. Aside from the phenomenal concerts, you’ll get to indulge in festival activities on board such as workshops, clinics, and even signing sessions.
