Surfers from all over the world represent their country at this event and compete on the global stage. This year the Games will be bringing the competition to Miyazaki, Japan on September 7-15, 2019.
The world’s best National Surfing Teams across the globe will come together to compete for Gold in the ISA’s flagship event in Japan; the home of the 2020 Summer Olympic Games where surfing and skateboarding will make their Olympic debut. The event will also be the first ISA event for Olympic qualification.
The ISA World Surfing Games were last held in September last year in Tahara, Japan. 2019 marks the third consecutive year a global ISA event has been hosted in Japan.

This year, the ISA World Surfing Games will take place at Kisakihama Beach in Miyazaki, Japan. You can find the event at 2206-1 Kumano, Miyazaki, 889-2151, Japan.
The city of Miyazaki is located in the Southern Japanese Island of Kyushu. The nearest major airport is Miyazaki Airport, located 15 minutes north of the event. Visitors can travel from the airport to the event and surrounding areas via train. It is recommended to purchase a JR pass in advance in order to travel around the city. JR passes are only available to foreigners and passes are available for 7, 14 or 21 days; starting at $369. The pass allows unlimited access to all trains throughout Japan on the JR lines. You can travel to and from the event via the JR Nichinan line, stopping at Undokoen Station.
There are a number of accommodation options available in the nearby neighbourhoods of Kodomonokuni and Aoshima. Located just two to three stops away by train, the seaside area offers a range of hotels. You can also find a range of restaurants, gardens, shops and more. Popular hotels include JR Kyushu Hotel Miyazaki, Aoshima Grand Hotel and Hotel JAL City Miyazaki. You can explore a number of nearby accommodation options below.
The city of Miyazaki features a range of things to see and do. The coastal city is known for being one of the best surfing destinations in the entire country. Other popular attractions include Heiwadai Park, Miyazaki Jingu and the Udo Shrine.
Located near the Kodomonokuni and Aoshima areas, Aoshima Island features a range of popular attractions. Upon crossing the Yayoi Bridge, you can find attractions such as the Aoshima Shrine and Devil’s Washboard. The island is also popular for its famous rock faces and beaches. You can also find the botanical garden and a number of parks and temples nearby.
