If you’re looking for an unforgettable autumn run this year, your search ends with the Ibiza Trail Marathon. Held in the stunning port town of San Antonio, this marathon takes you through farmlands, forests, small villages, and cliffs; offering views that no other European marathon can match.
The island of Ibiza has had a reputation for being the ultimate Mediterranean party island, but the marathon gives you a chance to discover a secret, albeit healthier side of the destination in perfect October weather. Run through charming corners and explore the pristine natural beauty as you pound through the trail and make it to the finish line.
The marathon is well-attended by athletes from Spain and across the continent. It has long been attracting runners in droves for its pure unspoiled beauty and friendly trail options.
With three trail distances to choose from, the Ibiza Trail Marathon welcomes runners and intrepid souls of all levels to participate in one of Europe’s most beautiful runs.
There’s the light 10km trail, a medium 21km trail, and a 42km marathon trail, all of which start and finish by the picturesque San Antonio or Sant Antoni waterfront area. The starting line is located up the hills, while the finish line is along the coast. There will be lots of downhill runs, followed by an intense steep climb that will send your heart racing.
Given the nature of the terrain here, you won’t have to deal with hoards of spectators because Ibiza’s hills are pretty remote. So if you’re the kind of runner who prefers to focus because you easily get distracted from loud cheering, that’s probably another reason why the Ibiza Trail Marathon will appeal to you.
No matter how difficult it may seem, the gorgeous natural beauty will keep you inspired throughout the trail. It’s also one of the more affordable marathon events in Europe, so entry fees won’t break the bank. After you’ve done the race, there will be plenty of partying and nightlife awaiting you in Ibiza. We can’t think of a better way to celebrate!
The Ibiza Trail Marathon starts and ends at San Antonio in Ibiza, one of the island’s larger towns. This lively coast boasts of spectacular undulating terrain, lush vegetation, and beautiful beaches.
The trail running event is open to everyone aged 18 and above.
Ibiza is a fairly small island, so getting anywhere is easy with short travel times. The island has an extensive bus service, with half-hour services between all the big resorts and popular beaches.
The buses are comfortable and air-conditioned, so there’s no need to worry about discomfort.
Taxis are another great option for small groups; they can be easily flagged down day and night. Alternatively, you can also take the ferry service to get to and from nearby beaches.
Participants and spectators can book accommodations in or near San Antonio Bay in Ibiza. There are several lodging options that provide you with sweeping sea views, but inland options are great too.
Ibiza is renowned for its hardcore partying and hedonistic holiday vibes, so if you’re into that, you’ll have plenty to indulge in after the marathon. Spend some time unwinding on its beautiful beaches.
If you prefer something a little quieter, head to Talamanca and Santa Eulalia. Take a boat to the southwestern corner of the island, where a natural park by the name of Es Vedra will leave you breathless with its beauty.
The Ibiza Trail Marathon happens next on October 17, 2021.
