Great Ocean Road Marathon 2024: One of the most spectacular iconic scenic coastal marathons in the world

Over 7,000 participants of all ages and abilities can run or walk in six races during the running festival held at coastal towns Lorne and Apollo Bay, Victoria, Australia, which also hosts a kite festival, live music and a range of other events over the 2 days. There is also a wheelchair race and opportunity to explore the “Great Ocean Road Walk”. If you can’t wait that long then why not try.

Your experience at the Great Ocean Road Marathon

The skies will be filled with color as the Kite Festival is run alongside the marathon, stretching the whole of the coastline between the two towns.

There is access to the Lorne Sea Baths for trampoline fun, mini golf, hydro baths, gym and pool and the film festival plays new releases and family-friendly movies in the Lorne Theatre all weekend.

A program of live Australian music is played at various venues along the beaches and in each of the towns. Best views of the Great Ocean Road Marathon

The festival is held at Lorne and Apollo Bay in Victoria, Australia, along the Kennett River and is a 2.5 hour drive from Melbourne up the coast. These seaside villages are known for brilliant surfing, excellent seafood, the green rolling hills and the Cape Otway National Park.

Things to do along the Great Ocean Road

The crescent-shaped beach offers hours of fun between the two towns. Surfing, fishing and sailing are all on top of the list in this scenic area of the Great Ocean Road.

Kayaking, Fishing and Adventure tours run most days with the opportunity to catch snapper, shark and tuna.

Explore the way through the Great Otway and Port Campbell National Parks by following the “Great Ocean Walk”. Hop on and off this long-distance walk extending east to west between Apollo Bay and the iconic Twelve Apostles.

How to get there

Car hire is recommended for exploring the Great Ocean Road.

Shuttle buses run along the Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Apollo Bay, to the start lines in the morning as well as after the events.

Train services operated by V/Line are available from Melbourne to Geelong, Colac or Warrnambool, stopping along the way in major towns, a connecting V/Line bus service stops at Apollo Bay and other locations.
