Celebrate The King’s Birthday in true Dutch Fashion

April 27 marks the annual celebration of Kings Day, a unique Dutch holiday. Also known as Koningsdag, the national holiday sees the entire country turn Orange for the day as locals and visitors alike, celebrate the birth of the King Willem-Alexander. Home to more music festivals than you can imagine, the Netherlands boasts some of the finest musical talent and even finer events. What better way to celebrate the Dutch holiday than by doing what the Dutch do best! Here are five epic festivals to check out this Kings Day.

1. Kingsland Festival

Kingsland Festival is Holland’s largest one-day festival. Originating in the heart of Amsterdam, the festival has since grown to become the largest Kings Day celebration in the country, taking place in five cities across the Netherlands. ‘From the North to the South and West to East’, you can find a Kingsland Festival near you! Whether you’re in Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Den Bosch, Groningen or Twente, Kingsland is the place to be on April 27!

2. Supersized Kingsday

Celebrate like a royal at Supersized Kingsday! This festival unites hundreds of hardstyle lovers at one of the ‘biggest and cosiest’ festivals on offer! The annual celebration takes place in the village of Best, in the south of the Netherlands. Hosted by the creators of some of two of the largest harder styles events in the world; Hard Bass and Decibel Outdoor, Supersized Kingsday is the only way to celebrate Kings Day for lovers of the harder styles.

3. Loveland Van Oranje

For a change of scenery, Loveland Van Oranje offers a unique Kings Day experience with a techno twist. Hosting some of the biggest names techno has to offer, in the heart of Amsterdam, you can get an authentic Kings Day experience in the city centre, and dance the night away right around the corner. 

4. XXlerator Kingsday

The Dutch love their hardstyle, which is why XXlerator Kingsday comes out on top. The festival, held just outside of Amsterdam, takes place not only on Kings Day but also Kings Night (the eve of Kings Day). The two-day event showcases the best of hardstyle and rawstyle, and the best part; it’s entirely free!

5. Hardfest

Lose yourself at Hardfest and become absorbed in the orange moment. As the name suggests, Hardfest offers all of Holland’s finest harder styles talent in one place. Featuring three stages of the finest hardstyle heroes in the heart of Enschede, Hardfest is the only way to celebrate Kings Day in the east!
