The Deep Summer Photo Challenge brings the best of mountain bike photographers into an event curated to showcase emerging and established talent. 5 hand selected photographers have 72 hours to shoot and edit a 3-5 minute slideshow to be shown at an event for Crankworx Whistler – the largest mountain bike festival on the planet.
Ben Haggar handpicked a team of riders with a diverse skill set, but it was more based on personality. Everyone was very hard working and has a great sense of humour -which is key in such a difficult and stressful event.
‘I was absolutely shattered. After 3 days of chasing professional riders down double black trails in 30+ degrees on a total of 6.5 hours sleep in 3 nights, I had nothing left. That’s when I had to dig deep, pull my head up, and concentrate for another all night editing session. So many people had put so much time and effort in to this project, I put immense pressure on myself to create something special that would equate to all the hard work.’
‘Almost all of my mountain bike photographic heroes have stood on this stage while I watched from out in the crowd. It is truly an honour to be standing on the stage tonight and I have a new appreciation to all the hard work and man-hours which go into these shows.’ Hagger recalls.
