Solar Weekend 2019: Built On Creativity

Solar Weekend is an annual multi-genre electronic music festival that takes place in Roermond, Netherlands. Founded in 2005, the festival celebrates its 15 year anniversary this year with an epic edition. Solar Weekend annually showcases talent from a wide range of genres, from jazz to techno, classical, hip hop, DJ’s, bands, singers and more. It also features a range of activities, sports areas, theatres and other attractions, which perfectly compliment the ultimate musical experience.

Solar Weekend Lineup 2019

The festival showcases a diverse lineup featuring both local and international talent across multiple stages. This years anniversary edition will be headlined by Ben Sims, Len Faki, Rødhåd, Bizzey and Ben Klock. The likes of Cache Royale, Fedde Le Grand, Kobosil, Daddy Tap and more will also perform at the event. The festival will also feature a range of exclusive live performances from Cookies and Cream, The Youth of Today, Shermanology & Dennis Quinn, Slam and more.

Solar Weekend takes place at the Maasplassen in Roermond, Netherlands. You can find the event at De Weerd 1, 6041 TK Roermond. 

How to get around Roermond

The festival grounds are easily accessible by both car and public transport. If you are driving to the festival, navigate to Maasplassen, Roermond until you see the ‘Solar’ signs and follow the signs to the festival grounds. You can also travel to the festival by train, arriving at Roermond Station. Upon arrival, official festival shuttles will be available to transfer visitors between the station and festival ground. Return shuttle tickets can be purchased on the day for 5 euros and must be paid in cash only. Official bus transfers are also available to purchase for Saturday and Sunday and can be found in the festival ticket shop. 

Parking is available at the festival grounds for visitors who are driving to the event. If you are arriving on Thursday, you can park significantly closer to the festival grounds. If you are arriving on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, you will have to park in the visitor’s car park, which is approximately 3.5km from the venue. Official shuttle buses will be available to transfer visitors between the campsite and parking lot. The shuttles operate between 10.30 am and 10.30 pm on Friday and 9:00 am and 12:30 am on Saturday and Sunday. Shuttle passes can be purchased online in the festival ticket shop. 

Where to stay for Solar Weekend

Solar Weekend features an official campsite for visitors. The campgrounds are fully equipped and feature dozens of activities, including a 72-hour silent disco, the biggest water gun battle, a volleyball tournament and more. You can bring your own tent and camping supplies, or purchase a pre-setup camping package in the festival ticket shop.

You can also find a number of nearby accommodation options throughout Roermond as well as within the vicinity of the event. Nearby hotel options include the Grand Hotel Valies, Van der Valk Hotel Het Arresthuis, Hotel Roermond Next Door and Hotel Roermond – HRM. All nearby hotels are located a short drive from the festival grounds and are within walking distance of Roermond Station, where festival shuttles will be available.

Things to do in Roermond

The small Dutch town of Roermond offers a number of attractions throughout the city. Roermond is home to a number of historical buildings and churches. Popular attractions include the Sint Christoffel Kathedraal, Munsterkerk and Kapel in ’t Zand. There are also a wide variety of museums throughout the town, including the Rattentoren, Het Rude Kerkkhof and Historiehuis.

Nearby, you can also find the Meinweg National Park, which features native trees and plants; as well as running and biking trails. Located just a short drive from the festival grounds and the city centre, you can also find Designer Outlet Roermond; one of the biggest outlet malls in the Netherlands and the shopping capital of the Limburg province.
