Everyone should visit Africa at least once. It is, after all, the land where we all come from. The mother of mankind, and the garden of Eden. But there is no better way to experience Africa than by attending the MTN Bushfire Festival, a one-of-a-kind music and arts festival in the picturesque Malkerns Valley. The festival grounds transform into a breathing ecosystem with uniquely African elements all throughout, peppered with global festival experiences. Each year, over 25,000 people from 60 countries trek to Swaziland to immerse in an uplifting weekend celebrating the wonders of African art and music.
‘The MTN Bushfire Festival invites you to bring your fire: your energy and passion as you express your creativity and immerse in revelry, African style.’
If you’re feeling low on ‘fire’, there is no doubt that the electrifying energy pulsating through the crowd is contagious enough. Let loose with the music, care of some of the biggest local and international artists dropping beats from a wide range of genres and countries. Aside from the main stage, the venue is divided into different sections, each offering something special for all ages throughout the weekend. The House on Fire Ampitheatre is where you’ll find the jaw-dropping performances in poetry, music, dance, and more. The Barn is the acoustic stage, thoughtfully decorated with wood chip floors and pallet furniture for an intimate experience. Party hard at Firefly, located on the edges of the festival venue where hip-hop and rap artists play to a fun crowd of revelers.
As a bonus, profits go to local charities, so go ahead and party – it’s for a good cause! It will change your life, while changing the lives of others.
The MTN Bushfire Festival takes place at the House of Fire, located 23km from the capital city of Mbabane and 4 hours from Johannesburg.
There are three tickets available: Full Festival Golden Lounge, Full Festival Main Arena, and Full Festival Children. Kids below the age of 12 will need to be accompanied by an adult, but kids aged 0-5 will be allowed to enter the festival for free. Kids aged 6 to 12 years old will be required to purchase the Full Festival Children ticket.
The festival will be organizing a Park and Ride system, which offers shuttles taking attendees to and from the venue and various points nearby. Once you’re in the venue, getting around the Malkerns Valley is fairly easy but remember to bring your passport and identification.
Most festival goers opt to camp at the camp site, but be sure to pre-arrange a camp with the organizers. Campers will have access to a café as well as a restaurant.
Alternatively, attendees can book a hotel as there are numerous lodging options nearby suitable for all kinds of budgets. Ideally, book accommodations that are within 30km from House of Fire.
