Inti Raymi is a very important festival both socially and culturally for the Inca people. It has since grown and outsiders from around the world come together to help honor the Incan heritage. While in Cusco during the festival you will find cultural enrichment around every corner. With such a sacred and important holiday steeped with tradition, anyone that is interested in past cultures will want to attend.

Food, fun, music, and relaxation with strong cultural ties to a rich and colorful Incan past. You will be taken back in time before Western influences came to South America. The entire festival is full of rituals meant to honor the Incican sun god.

Your experience at Inti Raymi

While in the surrounding area you would be doing yourself a disservice if you did not take advantage of touring the once powerful and sprawling Incan kingdom. Complete with ruins, farms, and trails that span for miles. You will be able to see people living like that have for thousands of years, with a lot of the modern comforts close at hand.

It is truly an amazing experience that will bring you closer to the past and while you are there and part of the spectacle you will find yourself being part of their present. The festival will take place in Cusco, Peru which was once the capital of the historical Inca people.

How to get around

To enjoy the festival you are going to really need to be able to walk around. With so much going on it will be hard to see in a vehicle and honestly, traffic will be an issue. There is plenty of local transportation in the form of busses and taxis so finding your way around should not be a problem. Check with hotel staff to make sure you are getting the best deals.

Cusco is a modern city with plenty of hotels in and around the area. There are local options that range from resorts, bed and breakfasts hotels, hostels, and you can even find house-sharing options as well.

Things to do in Cusco

If you are into indigenous cultures there is plenty for you to see and enjoy in the surrounding area. The trails that take you to the ruins are without a doubt a must stop while visiting the area. Like most South American festivals, the market is going to be ALIVE with energy so be sure to stop by and enjoy the local spectacle. Just don’t get lost in the crowd!
