Decibel Open Air 2019: Celebrate under the Sun and the Stars

Decibel Open Air is an annual music festival that takes place in Florence, Italy each year. Born in 2016, the festival has grown to become one of the biggest and most celebrated events in the country. Taking place in the impressive Visarno Arena, the festival will welcome more than 30 world-renowned acts who will perform among impressive laser and light shows, art installations, advanced sound systems and more.

This year’s edition will welcome over 30 impressive names to the lineup; bringing together the best in trance, house and techno. The festival will be headlined by world class artists Armin van Buuren and Infected Mushroom; who will perform alongside the likes of Loco Dice, Joseph Capriati, Rodhad, The Martinez Brothers, Fisher and more. In 2019, the festival has also announced it’s very own Elrow stage which will take place on Sunday. The world famous party brand will be taking over the arena and bringing it’s signature sound, style and production to the heart of Italy.

In addition to the bill of talent, the festival also features a range of activities including a giant ferris wheel, street food, fresh free water and more.

Decibel Open Air will take place at Visarno Arena in Florence, Italy. You can find the event at Viale del Visarno, 14, 50144 Firenze FI, Italy. 

How to get around Florence 

The nearest major airport is Florence Airport Peretola, located approximately 20 minutes from the city centre. You can travel into the city from the airport via tram on line T2, with services operating every 4 minutes. When travelling around the city, the easiest and most convenient way to get around is by bus or tram. Buses are frequently used by locals and visitors and are readily available throughout the entire city. You can purchase a single ticket for 1.20 euros or opt for the ‘Carta Agile’ card which offers discounted bulk tickets in 10 or 20 trips at 1 euro per trip. The city’s tram service is also a convenient way to travel, with 14 different stops available throughout the city. Taxis are available but it is common to find a taxi rank or book a ride in advance as flagging down taxis in the street is not very common.

Visarno Arena is easily accessible by public transport, with train, bus and tram stops all available nearby. Visitors taking the train can travel to Firenze Porta al Prato, followed by a short walk to the venue. You can also take tram lines T1.3 or T2 to ‘Cascine’ which is adjacent to the venue.

Things to do in Florence 

The city of Florence features a range of historical attractions and landmarks. One of the most popular attractions is Brunelleschi’s Dome. Also known as the Piazza del Duomo, the 12th-century cathedral displays stunning architecture and history in the heart of the city. Nearby, you can also find the Palazzo Vecchio, a fortified 13th-century palace with lavishly decorated chambers and courtyards. You can also find a number of popular museums and art galleries, including the Galleria dell’Accademia, home to the world famous ‘Statue of David’ among other renaissance paintings and icons. For a perfect sunset spot, make sure to explore Piazzale Michelangelo. The 19th-century hilltop piazza features a bronze replica of the Statue of David and offers stunning panoramic views over the city. 

If you are up for the challenge, Florence is also home to one of the craziest Italian festivals: Calcio Fiorentino. The final takes place on June 24, the event brings an Italian football tradition to life with a barbaric twist and is celebrated every June.
