Every year during the US Open surfing luminaries like Kelly Slater, Laird Hamilton and Stephanie Gilmore are named to the Walk of Fame, or inducted into the nearby Hall of Fame – worth a visit if you love surf culture and history.

How to get around Huntington

Huntington Beach is plagued by parking meters and two-hour parking limits. During the US Open, congestion is rampant. Bring or rent a bicycle to explore the area, especially if you arrive late and have to park far away. Though many contest-goers use a skateboard as transport, it will be annoying to carry throughout the day and is susceptible to getting stolen.
