Telluride, Colorado

Telluride Blues and Brews 2023: The most scenic festival in the country!

Each September Telluride Blues and Brews takes over the renowned Colorado mountain town in a celebration of music and craft beer. This may well be one of the most scenic festivals you’ll have been to, with an eclectic mix of music (not just Blues as the name would suggest), stretching to funk, indie, rock, jam-band and gospel.

There’s also 170 beers and ciders to try from 56 of the best craft breweries in the U.S., with seven beers on tap from Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, five styles from select breweries served in the House of Brews and rare, limited edition rotating kegs served at the High Altitude Craft Beer Lounge.

Your experience at the Telluride Blues and Brews

Try out the festival’s free morning yoga session and the cozy, late night club shows. There are lots of kids’ activities at the festival too, including a climbing wall, bounce houses and bungee trampolines. When B.B. King first performed here in 2004, he sat on the stage, looked out at the mountains before him, and said,

“Out of the 90 different countries I’ve been to, I’ve never seen anything more beautiful than what you have here.”

Other legends that have performed at Telluride Blues and Brews include Lou Reed, Etta James, The B-52s, James Brown, Willie Nelson, Joe Cocker and many more.

Taking place at the start of Colorado’s Fall season, you’ll see the Aspen leaves as they are turning golden and take advantage of the many outdoor activities in the region – including hiking, mountain biking and fly-fishing.

Where to watch Telluride Blues and Brews 2023

Telluride is a beautiful discovery of the Old West pioneers, with saloons and clapboard shopfronts adorning the main street as proof of its Western history; giving this mountain town a serious injection of charm and character.

Due to this significant role in the history of the American West, the town was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964. The festival site is Telluride Town Park, which is located at the end of the historic main street (500 E Colorado Ave, Telluride, CO 81435, USA).

How to get around Telluride

Telluride is in the South West corner of Colorado, with direct flights available from Denver. Those spending more time in the state may want to make a road trip of it; the scenery along the drive is epic.

Where to stay in Telluride

There are several hotels in Telluride, with some character properties in the main town such as New Sheridan Hotel as well as The Hotel Telluride.

Several options on the mountain are also available and are easily accessible from the festival, thanks to a free gondola.

Camping is also a great option. There are many sites located in Telluride and other private campgrounds in nearby areas; including Ridgway, Montrose and along the Dolores River next to Highway 145.

Things to do in Telluride

Hiking – with over 90 hikes in Telluride you can choose from an afternoon stroll to climbing a fourteener (mountain over 14,000ft); which all deliver beautiful scenery. Bear Creek Trail is a great option for an easier hike, which takes you to across streams and to the base of a waterfall.

If you don’t feel like you’ve sampled enough ‘Brews’ at the festival, head to Telluride Brew Company or Telluride Distilling Company.

Take a jeep tour into the mountains, where you can see the Ghost Town remains of the mining communities that were created during the Gold Rush.

Don’t forget to take on the Million Dollar Highway – one of the most scenic roads in the U.S. There are great views however you prefer to ride – in the car or on a motorbike.
