Rockmaraton is one of Hungary’s oldest music festivals. The annual six-day event regularly hosts more than 100 of the best local and international bands. With over two decades under their belt and a number of name and venue changes, 2019 marks the 5thyear anniversary of Rockmaraton in Dunaújváros.

This year’s edition of Rockmaraton welcomes 160 bands across three stages over six days. In honour of 5 years in Dunaújváros, the eve of the anniversary will showcase 15 orchestras from Dunaújváros, performing on ‘day zero’. The festival will be headlined by Eluveitie, Paradise Lost, Philip H. Anselmo & the Illegals, Soulfly, Finntroll and more.
Rockmaraton takes place in Szalki Island in Dunaújváros, Hungary. You can find the event at 51317 Dunaújváros, 2400 Hungary.
Visitors can travel to Rockmaraton via car as well as public transport. The easiest way to get to Szalki Island is to travel along the M6 motorway, avoiding the city centre. There are around 200 free parking spaces available around the entrance of the island. Free parking is also available at the nearby intersection of Aranyhegyi út, located approximately a 15-minute walk away.
This year, Rockmaraton has also teamed up with Máv-Start trains to give visitors a 50% rail discount, making your trip more cost-effective. Festival buses are also available, providing easy access between Rockmaraton and the train station. Visitors can safely travel between the festival and nearby train station via shuttle, with tickets available on the bus. Tickets start at 350 HUF (approximately $1.20) for a single pass, or 3000 HUF (approximately $10) for a one-week pass. The shuttle route stops at the railway station, Kertváros, bus station, Ady Endre u., Dósza Cinema, Baracsi Road, Márton Szorád Ált and Szalki Sziget. A local bus is also available, transferring visitors between the festival, the bus station and downtown Dunaújváros every 30 minutes.
Rockmaraton features a fully equipped campsite on the island of Szalki. The campsite can be accessed for free by all ticketholders and includes sanitary blocks and 24-hour patrol service. If you don’t want to camp with your car, you can also purchase a car camping parking ticket, which provides parking on the festival grounds away from the campsite and entitles you to a one-time collection. The car camping parking ticket is 12,900 HUF (approximately $45).
Rockmaraton also offers a number of nearby accommodation options. For those only interested in a bed, the festival offers dormitory style accommodation options at the nearby Hild High School, located a 10-minute walk from the festival; and Rudas College, located a 15-minute walk from the festival. The ‘Rudas Collection’ and ‘Hild Collection’ feature 4-bed dormitory rooms with shared showers in the hallway and start at 2,760 HUF (approximately $10) per person, per night.
A number of nearby guesthouse and apartment options are also available, ranging from around 5,000 – 7,000 HUF (approximately $17-$25) per person, per night. Hotels are also available at around 8,000 HUF (approximately $28) per person, per night. Nearby hotels include the Dunaferr Hotel and Club Hotel Dunaujuláros. The city of Dunaújváros offers a number of attractions such as the Castra Intercisa and Kortárs Müvészeti Intézet museums. Located approximately an hour north of Dunaújváros is the Hungarian capital of Budapest. The bustling city offers countless attractions such as the Buda Castle, Hungarian Parliament, Fisherman’s Bastion and the famous Széchenyi Thermal Baths.
The next edition of Rockmaraton will take place from July 8-14, 2019.
