New York State Fair 2023: Find Your Great!

The New York State Fair is an annual 18-day celebration of delicious food, eye-opening exhibits, captivating entertainment and great fun. It is one of the biggest and best state fairs in the United States. 2023 will mark the New York State Fair’s 177th edition, showcasing animals attractions, rides, entertainers and more.

The New York State Fair features a number of special fair days throughout the event. Children 12 and under can enter the fair for free every day. Seniors 60 and over can enter for free on Monday through to Wednesday.

Students 18 and under can enter for free on Friday. Each day of the event showcases a range of different exhibits and themes. The opening day admission is only $1!

This year’s edition of the New York State Fair also features a range of live performances and entertainers. Past year’s acts have included Nas, Locash, Bobby Bones and the Raging Idiots plus loads more acts played.

Where to view New York State Fair 2023

The New York State Fair takes place at the New York State Fairgrounds in Syracuse, New York. You can find the event at 581 State Fair Blvd, Syracuse, NY 13209, USA. 

How to get around Syracuse

The nearest major airport is Syracuse Hancock International Airport, located approximately 10 minutes from the city centre and 15 minutes from the fairgrounds. The New York State Fairgrounds is easily accessible by car and public transport.

Located just off Route 690, you can access the grounds from the New York State Thruway Route 90 from the West and East and Route 81 from the North and South. Parking is available on site for over 23,000 cars and most non-airtime event parking is free. Parking passes are $5 per vehicle and a free shuttle is available to transfer visitors from the orange lot to the main gate. Valet parking is also available every day of the fair for $20. There will also be a Centro Park-N-Ride service, with direct express buses departing from select State Fair Park-N-Ride locations across Onondaga, Cayuga and Oswego Counties.

If you are travelling from outside the city, Amtrak will provide direct train services to the New York State Fair this summer; offering an affordable and convent way to travel through to New York. Taxis are also readily available throughout New York and rideshare options such as Uber and Lyft will also operate throughout the event, with designated pick up and drop off zones.

Where to stay for New York State Fair 

The New York State Fair offers official RV Parking spaces throughout the duration of the event. RV Parking Permits must be purchased in advance and tent camping is not allowed. The RV campsite is a dry campsite and no water, electrical or sewer services are included. The Empire RV Park is also available, featuring a single parking site for up to a 17-night stay, and includes water, electric and sewer services, as well as a garbage disposal location. 

You can also find a wide variety of accommodation options throughout New York. The nearest hotel is Best Western The Inn at the Fairgrounds, located just a short walk from the main entrance. Other nearby options include Try by Hilton Syracuse-Camillus, Embassy Suites by Hilton Syracuse Destiny USA and Aloft Syracuse Inner Harbor; located just a short drive away.

Things to do in Syracuse

The northern New York city of Syracuse features a number of things to see and do. One of the most popular attractions is the Rosamond Gifford Zoo, which features 43-acres of wildlife trails and unique animals.

The Erie Canal Museum is the only remaining weighlock building which explores the impact & history of the canal system and is also a popular attraction.

Other well-known museums include the Everson Museum of Art, the Museum of Science and Technology and the Salt Museum. Located just outside the city, you can also find Onondaga lake, a large lake connected to several creeks, with fishing, boating, archery, ball fields, hiking trails and more.
