Mo Pop Festival 2019: Discover all that Mo Pop has to offer! 

Mo Pop Festival is returning to Detroit’s Riverfront this July. The two-day music festival features a number of emerging and established musicians, as well as a range of experiences and activities. The boutique event also showcases a range of local cuisines and beverages and has been compared to the likes of Coachella and Lollapalooza. 

This year, visitors can discover everything that Mo Pop has to offer. You can visit The Shipyard for a range of pop-up restaurants; offering a wide range of options to enhance your eating and drinking experience. The Food Truck Rally Alley also offers a range of Michigan’s most talented and popular mobile eateries. You can head over to the Craft Bazaar and explore the assortment of handmade goods from locals. You can also meet a range of your favourite artists at the official Artist Autographs signing session.

“7 years in and we haven’t repeated an artist yet!” 

This year’s edition features a number of local, international and headlining acts. Headliners Tame Impala and Vampire Weekend are among the many talented names on the schedule. The likes of Ella Mac, Noname, Lizzo and Kali Uchis will also share the stage this July. See the full lineup here.

Mo Pop Festival takes place at West Riverfront Park in Detroit, Michigan. You can find the event at 1801 W Jefferson Ave, Detroit, Michigan 48216.

How to get around Detroit

The nearest major airport is Detroit Metro Wayne County Airport, located approximately 20 minutes west of the city centre. The airport is a major Delta Airlines hub, but most major and budget airlines operate throughout this location. A number of public transport options are available throughout the city of Detroit, making it easy to get around. The Detroit People Mover is an elevated and automated light-rail system; with 14 stations across a 2.9-mile loop. The people mover passes through downtown, transporting visitors quickly and safely; and one-way tickets are only 75c.

Similar to the people mover, the QLine streetcar runs along Woodward Avenue, serving 20 stations across 12 locations; and one-way fares are $1.50. The DDOT is a bus service that operates within the city of Detroit, with fares starting at $1.50. Other bus services include Greyhound and Megabus, which offer cross country travel at affordable prices. Bike and scooter rentals have also become increasingly popular throughout the US. You can rent one of over 400 bikes at Detroit’s 43 MoGo Bike Stations throughout 10 different neighbourhoods. You can also find bird and lime scooters in and around the city. 

There are a number of ways to get to and from the festival throughout the weekend. Parking is available on site for $25 per day for general parking and $40 per day for premium parking. Passes can be purchased in addition to your festival ticket, or individually. The festival recommends taking the People Mover for just 75c to the Joe Louis Arena stop; a short walk from the entrance of the festival. Another alternative is travelling to and from the venue by bike, with plenty of safe and secure bicycle parking available at the festival site.

The official Hotel for Mo Pop Festival 2019 is the Trumbull & Porter Hotel; located just a short walk from the festival. Reservations can be made directly through the festival travel packages. Things to do in Detroit

The city of Detroit is home to a range of attractions. A large number of museums can be found throughout the city; with popular ones including the Detroit Institute of Arts, The Henry Ford Museum and the Motown Museum. 

If you’re looking to shop, the GM Renaissance Centre features a large riverfront headquarters filled with shops, dining options, hotels and more. The 19th-century Eastern Market in Detroit also features a number of vendors selling a range of produce every weekend. 

If you’re on the hunt for an outdoor adventure, make sure to make your way over to Belle Isle Park, an island park in the Detroit River. The 982-acre park features a number of gardens, as well as a zoo, aquarium, beaches and a range of dining options.

Tame Impala – Australian psychedelic rock band Tame Impala is one headlining act you should not miss. Drawing inspiration from a wide range of sounds dating back to the 60s and 70s, the groove rock band is known for their dream-like melodies. Their hit singles such as ‘The Less I Know The Better’ and ‘Feels Like We Only Go Backwards’ will have you singing along while chilling out. 

Vampire Weekend – American Indie Rock band Vampire Weekend have grown from being supported by music bloggers to a Grammy Award-winning act. Their Afro-pop inspired sound has With a tonne of new music to perform, these guys are one to watch. 

The Story So Far – Forming just over a decade again, American pop-punk group The Story So Far has become a worldwide favourite. Their energetic, ‘emo’ inspired sounds have seen many of their tracks remain in the Billboard charts. After taking their songwriting in new and different directions, and adding acoustic and electronic elements to their shows, this will definitely be a set you won’t want to miss.
