Lightning in a Bottle is North America’s premier independent art and music festival. Presented by Do LaB, the five-day camping festival showcases more than 150 local and international DJ’s and musicians, as well as a range of art installations, workshops, cultural offerings and more. After more than a decade of making magic, this year’s edition will see the event move away from its traditional Memorial Day weekend schedule to an earlier date at the beginning of May. The festival will also be moving to a brand new home in Bakersfield, California.

Lightning in a Bottle actively applies the community’s guiding principles ‘6 ways of LIB’ to create the ultimate Lightning in a Bottle experience. The principles place high importance on visitors to celebrate life, create community, respect yourself and respect one another, actively participate, honour the land and be a citizen.
Known for their stellar lineup, Lightning in a Bottle will welcome back more than 150 artists to the truly magical event. The Lightning stage will be headlined by Disclosure, Big Gigantic, Flying Lotus and Santigold, with many more names sharing the stage. Lane 8, DJ Koze and Shiba San are among many names that will take to the Woogie Stage. The Thunder stage will host some of electronic music’s fastest rising stars such as G Jones and 1788-L.
Lightning In A Bottle takes place at the Buena Vista Aquatic Recreational Area in Bakersfield, California. You can find the event at 13601 Ironbark Road, Bakersfield, CA 93311.
Nestled in central California, Lightning in a Bottle can be easily accessed by car as well as public transport. The nearest major airport is Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
One of the most popular ways to travel to Lightning in a Bottle is by car, as you can get the full wondrous experience on a road trip. Parking is available for those without a car camping pass. The festival encourages the LIB carpool initiative to keep emissions and traffic at a low. Parking is free for vehicles with one or more passengers (not including the driver), however, single-occupant vehicles will be charged $30 to access the parking lot.
For reliable transportation from nearby major cities, the ‘lightning bus’ is the perfect way to go. The quick and easy journey allows visitors to relax to and from the event, as well as lower the carbon footprint. Lightning buses are available from Los Angeles, Oakland and San Diego and tickets start at $42 + fees. Local ground transportation such as Greyhound and Amtrak also operate services to the Bakersfield area.
To get the full Lightning in a Bottle experience, camping at the festival is a must. The fully equipped campgrounds act as the perfect break from the ordinary to relax and make new friends. Take part in the Pots and Pans parade or test your stamina at the Must-Dash 5k Run. For lovers of yoga and movement, a number of yoga practices and dance and movement classes are available for all styles and abilities.
