For a long time, the Big Apple was known for many things: a cosmopolitan vibe, its rich and colorful history, a vibrant theater scene, iconic skyscrapers, an incredibly diverse gastronomic offering, and a hot spot for culture and the arts. But it lacked one thing: a music festival worth writing home about. Until 2011, that is.
The launch of Governors Ball became one more bucket list-worthy reason to visit New York. What started out as a small one-day summer festival has grown in massive proportions through the years, and is now the state’s biggest music events spanning three days. Featuring over 60 of the best and brightest musicians of various genres playing across four stages, there will be something for everyone to dance to. You’ll have access to the city’s best eats as festival fare, with a carefully curated mix of food trucks and restaurants. In fact, if you have a limited amount of time in New York and want to sample the finest food, you’ll find them all at the festival! Governors Ball also offers an eclectic lineup of summer activities for festival goers: from interactive photo booths and ridiculously fun outdoor activities, there’ll be plenty of opportunity to get inspired or unwind in between concerts.
‘If you had to choose one music festival to attend this year, make it the Governors Ball.’
Past lineups have included Jack White, Eminem, Phoenix, Chance the Rapper, The Strokes, Bjork, Guns N’ Roses, The XX, Feist, and many more stellar acts. Given its track record, they will only continue to blow it out of the water.
Randall’s Island Park is home to Gov Ball. It’s one of the city’s best public parks, and has well-maintained facilities for festival goers to enjoy. Conveniently located in the heart of New York City, the park is easily accessed via The Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens.
Tickets include 3-Day General Admission, 3-Day VIP, 3-Day VIP Plus, 3-Day Platinum, and the option for exclusive Cabanas & Luxury Suites which comes with tons of added perks.
The Big Apple is best explored on foot. But if your destination is too far, you’re in luck because New York City has a variety of public transportation options to choose from. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) is the city’s main bus and rail system, and operates all hours of the day. All you need to do is to buy a MetroCard to access its services. Another quick and easy way of getting around is the subway. Public buses, the Roosevelt Island Tram, taxi, bicycle, and ride-sharing apps are other alternatives.
New York’s neighborhoods have something for all tastes and budgets. No matter where you choose to stay, getting around is fairly easy as long as you’re near a bus stop or a subway station. Manhattan is one of the city’s most popular and trendy areas, ideal for those looking for luxurious hotels.
Other areas to scope out for accommodations include Midtown, the Meatpacking District, Tribeca, SoHo, Upper West Side, and the Theater District.
