It’s a unique festival experience that takes place at the spectacular fairytale-like location of Banffy Castle, near Cluj-Napoca, in Transylvania. Electric Castle is a full festival experience featuring street performers and stand-up comedy acts, as well as music, arts, light shows and activities, combining a spectacular set of areas and structures.
Taking pride in it’s eclectic nature, Electric Castle is a festival of electronic music, indie and rock that is celebrated in Romania in mid-summer, a huge festival with an intimate atmosphere that permeates the venue.
Music and on stage Dj’s playing on various stages over the 5 days. 2018 saw Groove Armada, Damian Marley, London Grammar, Mura Masa, and DJ Cam take the stage.

Described as one of Romania’s best kept secrets, the multifaceted event attracts 70,000 people who are entertained by 100+ artists on 8 stages. There are also several areas showcasing local fashion designers, various tech toys such as VR games and simulators topped off with a huge Ferris wheel.
The festival takes place on Banffy’s Castle domain, in Bontida, Cluj, Romania. Bontida is situated in Transylvania about 30 km from Cluj-Napoca.
There are regular buses, all day and night long, leaving from Horia Demian Sports Hall and Iulius Mall to the festival. There are regular shuttle buses to and from the site.
Travel to the festival via the train station of Cluj-Napoca. From there, a further train or tram can take you to the shuttle bus stops.
International festival goers fly to Cluj-Napoca Airport, which is 30 km from the festival site. From the airport take either a transfer shuttle or a taxi that will arrive at the festival site, panorama tents with a view and luxury “white lodge” hut accomodation.
There is camping on site available at the festival, from the basic “quiet camping sites” to pre-pitched tent and luxury glamping tents. There is campervan and RV access to the site.
Vila Comtessa is a 3-star hotel located 6kms from the festival. It has a restaurant, a bar and free WiFi access in all areas , all modern rooms are decorated in bright colours and come with air conditioning, a flat-screen satellite TV, and a private bathroom with a shower and free toiletries. Breakfast is usually included.
One of Romania’s most visited cities, Cluj-Napoca is the heart of Transylvania and the region’s unofficial capital and a student town filled with art, culture and charm. There are many eclectic coffee shops and restaurants in the city as well as jaw dropping scenery and hikes to take.
Salina Turda is a unique saltmine with tours & attractions such as an amphitheater, Ferris wheel, mini-golf & boats.
Ride the “Mocanita” historic steam train through the idyllic hills and mountains surrounding the city or visit the city’s green and soothing Central Park area and relax with a coffee.
The Festival hits Transylvania on July 17 -21, 2019.
