Dimensions Festival: Where Ancient Becomes Modernistic

The popularity of Croatia has soared in recent years and the Dimensions festival has widely expanded to go with it. Holding the festivals opening party in a historic 2000-year-old Roman fort, dimensions is one of Croatia’s most hyped about festivals. With the music echoing off the ruins, there is truly nothing quite like this festival.

The fort where the festivals opening party is held is actually one of the largest Roman amphitheaters in the world. The opening headliners in 2018 included Moodymann, Nubya Garcia, Josey Rebelle, Nils Frahm, Kraftwerk 3-D, and many more.

Tickets are sold separately for the opening party which is held just across the water, so you will need to get a boat taxi from the festival harbor. The boat taxi costs around £9. Held in Stinjan, Pula the site for Dimensions is one of the most unique spots any festival in the world is held in.

You can spend the day soaking up the rays on the beach with live jazz bands, chilled sets, and a few beers in the sea. Then head out on a 3hour boat party on the beautiful Adriatic Sea, with a buzzing atmosphere and some of the worlds best DJs. All of this gradually builds up to the night-time kick off at the main stage, where there will be live performances from Grace Jones, Floating Points, Little Dragon, and many more.

Dimensions festival is huge on electronic music and at the moat stage that’s exactly what you get right up until 6 am! As a member of the Dimensions festival crowd, you are able to get in line for tickets to the underground rave. Held by Resident Advisor, 2018 is the first year to be opening up the underground tunnels, for an experience like no other and vibrations that will shake the streets of Pula. The tunnels run from the fortress, right into the core of the city. Originally, the tunnels were built for shelter from the air raids in world war 1, and for the first time ever they will be opened up for what will be, the rave of your life.

Getting To Dimensions Festival

The festival site is quite secluded but close enough to the city center to grab a taxi. If you are flying out specifically for the festival there are direct festival transfers from airports such as Pula, Venice Marco Polo, Zagreb, Ljubljana, Trieste, and Treviso.

Airport festival transfers range from £28 to £38 depending on which airport you are flying into. Pula airport is only a 20-minute drive away from the festival site, so it’s fairly cheap for a taxi.

Where To Stay In Pula

For festival accommodation, there is mobile homes, camping, and hostels available right next to the beach, all located in the festival perimeter. Alternatively, there are many self-catered apartments nearby from 2-person apartments to 8-person apartments.

In the center of Pula, you have just about everything, from private villas to boutique hotels, there are many options scattered around the city. Pula has a range of hostels and remote apartments for those traveling on a budget.

Things To Do In Pula

Very much like the rest of Croatia, Pula is dressed in historic architecture with old cobbled streets and huge stone archways, walking through pula is like taking a step back in time.

There are museums, a monastery, temples, and markets to explore on the streets of pula, with guided historic tours and wine tasting sessions throughout the week. Being on the coast, Pula offers a variety of water sports including scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, canoeing, paddle boarding, and a selection of boat trips.

Dimensions Festival 2019 Tickets And Dates

This year’s Dimensions festival starts on Thursday the 29th of August 2019 until the 2nd of September 2019. There are several ticket types available with the weekend festival entrance and camping pass costing £206.50 or £141.00 just for the weekend festival pass.

The opening concert ticket is not included with the festival passes but can be purchased for an additional £33.50. Campervan spaces onsite are limited but there are tents and glamping available. Dimensions festival does not allow under 18s.
