Carvoeiro Black & White Night 2023: The Ultimate Summer Party In Portugal

There’s something truly special about European summers along the Iberian Peninsula: their unique brand of fun, balmy nights by the sea, vibrant beach parties, and the sound of beautiful languages being spoken all around you. But it simply doesn’t get any better than the elegant Carvoeiro Black & White Night.

It takes place on June 17 during the summer solstice, and it’s no doubt one of the most popular events in the Algarve, Portugal. Around 30,000 people come from near and far to participate in a full evening of festivities as revelers party in their best black and white outfits, spreading a pulsating, electrifying vibe all over town.

It may seem like a mute choice of color, but don’t be mistaken because the lively revelries are crazy. In case you didn’t know, the Portuguese do know how to throw  a party.

Carvoeiro Black & White Night was first held in 2014, and it’s now become a main draw for tourists. The event also the most highly anticipated event of the year, and that’s saying a lot considering that Algarve is a town whose festival calendar is pretty busy most of the year.

The parties will be all over Carvoeiro: from the beaches to the streets, there is tremendous energy everywhere! But more than just music, there will also be incredible entertainment including street dancers, live DJ acts, fire eating, and so much more. Make sure to keep the next day free, because the bars will be serving up libations throughout the night! You do need fuel for all that dancing, after all.

Everyone is invited! Oh, and coming in black and white isn’t optional, so make sure to pack party clothes with you – unless you want to stick out like a sore thumb.

Where to view Carvoeiro Black & White Night

Carvoeiro Black & White Night takes place at the main square of Carvoeiro, as well as the many streets and beaches around it. Parties will be happening around Lago de Praia, Rua do Barranco, and Estrada do Farol.

Entrance is completely free! No need for tickets to participate in the event, but you will need cash to buy food and drinks.

How to get around Carvoeiro

The local council and event organizers will be arranging free bus services from various points in town. It’s best to plan your itinerary for the evening as many streets in the Carvoeiro city center will be closed to traffic. Most bars and establishments will be accommodating visitors and festival goers by pulling out tables in the streets to make space for everyone.

After the Carvoeiro Black & White Night festivities, the best way to get around town is by taking the tourist train, locally known as the ‘comboio turistico’. For longer distances, car rental is a great way to see the sights further out of town.
