Danube Island Festival otherwise known as ‘Donauinselfest’ is the largest free open-air music festival In Europe

The Donauinselfest is the largest free open-air music festival in Europe. Taking place each year in the heart of Vienna, Austria, the event attracts thousands of visitors from all over the world. Thanks to the organisers, employees and partners, entrance to Danube Island Festival is entirely free, making it the largest open-air festival in Europe without entrance fees.

The three-day festival features performances from a range of artists and musicians across 10 different open-air stages and 18 tented areas throughout the island. Performances range from local bands and DJ’s to world-famous artists and headlining acts. 2019 marks the 36th annual edition of the event and will play host to some of the biggest names in the world; offering 600 hours of entertainment. Everything from rock, pop, alternative, indie, hip hope electro and more can be found at the event. You can also get a taste of the local culture with traditional ‘Volksmusik’ performances. 

Danube Island Festival Performances

Friday

Friday will be headlined by popular hip hop and house DJ and producer Hugel. Having remixed some of the hottest tracks in the world, reaching over 50 million streams on Spotify alone and even opening for David Guetta on his European tour, all eyes will be on Hugel on Friday night as he gives the Austrian crowd a taste of billboard charting electronic music. Joining the headlining act on day one will be the likes of Camo & Krooked, Mando Diao, Jazz Gitti, Semino Rossi, The Tiger Lillies and more. 

Saturday

In the lead up to their brand new album, which will be released in the Spring, Seiler and Speer will headline day two of the event. The chart-topping Austrian duo will perform alongside popular acts such as Yung Hurn, Mike Williams, Querbeat, Deladap, Chefboss and more. 

Sunday

The final day will close out with headlining act Tocotronic. Dubbed ‘Germany’s most intelligent band’, the group’s performance is often described as a ‘magical fairytale with cracking guitars and booming thunderstorms’. The German band invites you to go on a journey into infinity and beyond with their unique collection of life musical works. Sunday will also see the likes of Felix Jaehn, Revolverheld, Virginia Ernst, Darius & Finlay and more, take to the stage. 

Food at Danube Island Festival

In addition to the stellar musical lineup, The Donauinselfest will also host a range of street food from the Interspar Food Truck for all the festival-hungry people! Offering the finest street food delicacies, you can find a wide selection of delicious food; including the iconic hot dog, which will be available in a range of delicious variations. You can find the classic snack hot dog, as well as reinterpreted versions with creative toppings such as the Bavarian Dog, the Veggie Dog or the Krainer Cheese Dog. The combination of fine recipes and quality ingredients will make these hot dogs melt in your mouth. You simply must try it out for yourself!

Fanta Bubble Cup Tournament

Want to challenge your bubble soccer skills? The Fanta Bubble Cup will return to The Donauinselfest. Taking place on Saturday, you can participate in the official Fanta Bubble Cup on Team Orange or Team Pink Grapefruit! If you’re not up for the challenge, you can still slip into a bubble soccer suit and on Friday and Sunday and play around in a fun football game. Fanta Tasting Stations will also be available throughout the festival; where you can try all the Fanta flavour varieties and relax in the chill out zones! 

Donauinselfest 2019 Dates

Danube Island Festival will take place from June 21-23, 2019. Entrance is free so be sure to get there early to secure your entry! 

Getting There

The easiest way to get to the Danube Island Festival is by public transport. You can take Subway line U1 to Donauinsel Station or line U6 to Handelskai Station. There will be frequent services running into the night throughout the entire event.
