The inaugural Nitro World Games will hit Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, Utah on Saturday, July, 16.
Picture Nitro Circus meets the X-Games! Travis Pastrana will look to exceed the limitations placed between man and machine once more as the world’s greatest freestyle athletes converge under one roof.
A range of disciplines and formats will be used to test even the most accomplished athletes in Freestyle Motocross, BMX, Skateboard and Scooter. Seven Gold Medal Finals will be held on July 16th to showcase the best of the best to a global audience.
“Action sports is about progression, pushing the envelope to go bigger, faster and farther than ever before,” said Pastrana. “When it comes to competition, I expect to see the best of the best going head to head, attempting tricks no one has ever seen before. With the Nitro World Games, we wanted to create an event that has raised the bar and took action sports to the next level.”
Over 100 of the world’s greatest sports entertainers are set to compete at the games, spanning the varying disciplines.
Many top athletes have already been selected to progress straight through to the semi-finals on July 15th. A list of the announced athletes can be seen below:

In a special treat for action sports fans, skateboarding royalty Tony Hawk will help host the event alongside Pastrana and Olympic snowboarder Todd Richards.
“Words can’t describe how excited I am to have Todd and Tony host the Nitro World Games,” said Pastrana. “Todd is an amazing snowboarder and has been a great ambassador for action sports. To have a passionate and knowledgeable action sports athlete who has experience hosting his own TV show in the past is exactly the personality the World Games was hoping for.”
The Nitro World Games will be aired live on the NBC in America at 8:00pm. For Australian fans you can catch a live stream of the event at Dirt Action 12:00pm on Sunday July 17th.
With a population of nearly 200,000 people, the capital city of Utah has a large following towards action sports. The area has a colossal outdoor recreation tourism industry highlighted by its grant to host the 2002 Winter Olympics. Rice-Eccles Stadium which will host the Nitro World Games was actually used as the main stadium for the Olympics and showcased both the opening and closing ceremonies. Other notable performances at the stadium include concerts by the Rolling Stones and U2.
On a domestic level, Salt Lake City is home to the Utah Jazz NBA team and the Major League Soccer franchise Real Salt Lake. Rice-Eccles Stadium has also played host to a number of AMA Supercross Championship rounds since 2003.
There is no doubt that the Nitro World Games will be a viewing spectacle like no other. I strongly recommend you catch the live stream and see the world’s best go toe to toe in a format never seen before. Travis Pastrana is a genius when it comes to live action events and the Games is set to push the envelope of freestyle sports once more. With a global audience expected, the athletes will be out to give it their all as they aim to become maiden winners of the event which with an expected success will surely run for many years to come.
