Comedy Festivals and Action Sports

Everyone knows Snowbombing and Snowboxx in the Alps, but there’s only so much drinking, pill popping, and gurning you can do before it gets a little stale and you’ve got no more feeling in your cheeks. I’m in no way saying that people go to these festivals to pop pills or drink excessively, but people’s choices are their own and I’m only generalising from the stereotypes of all festivals. But I digress.

So what else is there to do if you’re not the biggest fan of aprés ski and pre-ski? Well, if you ask me, and you probably didn’t, there’s nothing better than spending a day on the slopes (or bike trails) and then spending the evening having a beer watching some of the best talent that the comedy circuit has to offer. With laughter being the world’s best medicine for anything that ails you, it’s worth hitting it hard and laughing out all of your worries. The only question is, where the hell do you go?

Altitude Comedy Festival

Where: Mayrhofen, Austria
When: December 11-17, 2017

The main festival on everyone’s lips these days is Altitude Festival.

After cementing its place in our calendars for a decade, Altitude Comedy Festival continues to grow in popularity with both punters and performers. Set in the wonderful resort of Mayrhofen, Altitude will blow your socks off with some of the highest standards in ski resort life that you can pick from, amazing food, amazing beer and, of course, some great acts. They’re currently plugging their Christmas festival so check it out, grab a tickets and laugh until you can laugh no more.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival

Where: Edinburgh, Scotland
When: August 04-28, 2017

Next up, and a bit left field, is Edinburgh Fringe Festival. You might not think about this festival being something you can do and then get some sports in on the side but, wait for it, you can.

Edinburgh Fringe Festival is world renowned by actors, comedians, street performers, tourists and fans alike. But if you think about it, if you’re not fussed by driving, You could spend a couple of days at the festival and then hot-foot it to pretty much anywhere in Scotland for some fun. As Fringe is in the summer months, you’re probably better placed to find some mountain biking trails to master – something Scotland has plenty of.

Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival

Where: Tour across the US
When: TBA, 2017

With the internet pedigree of ‘Funny or Die’, the Oddball Comedy & Curiosity Festival boasts the names of Jim Jeffries, John Oliver, Katherine Ryan and so many more. Now, there’s a reason that this festival is incredible and gives you the opportunity to do so much stuff and that’s because it’s a travelling tour. Oddball hits up several cities and states across the U.S. so the scope to get some activities under your belt is incredible. I can’t think of another comedy festival with this much laughing involved.

High Plains Festival and Mountain of Laughs

Some other honourable mentions would have to be the High Plains Comedy Festival and Mountain of Laughs. Although neither have the reputation of the other three, and nowhere nearly as much variety or depth, it’s a great way to get involved in the comedy scene whilst getting some exercise.
