Sziget Festival 2023: Immerse yourself in music, arts, theatre, culture, and history at Budapest’s Sziget Festival

Every August nearly half a million festival-goers flood to Budapest from all over Europe to jump into the week-long Sziget Festival, considered one of the best rock festivals in Europe. Each year there are over 1,000 performances from up and coming local artists to some of the biggest artists in the world. Past headliners have included Prince, Iron Maiden, and R.E.M Foo Fighters, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone, the 1975, The National, Martin Garrix, Florence + The Machin. This year is one of its biggest yet will have global names along for the ride.

The festival takes pride in exhibiting music from all genres and Sziget has World Music, EDM, Latin-Reggae, Hungarian Music, and Rock stages to ensure that there is always something for you to enjoy and plenty of opportunities to discover new music. The Park Tribute stage welcomes tribute bands from some of your all-time favorites and offers you the chance to sing-along to Rage Against the Machine, Metallica, ABBA, and Blink 182.

But Sziget is about so much more than just music; art, theatre and the bizarre litter the festival grounds. The Before I Die wall is an interactive art installation allowing all festival-goers to share their deepest secrets. Get lost in the I Ching Labyrinth, an ancient Chinese ritual that allows one to find the answers to their deepest concerns and desires.

‘Sziget Festival promotes the Love Revolution encouraging us to realise that the power of our Diversity unites us and together we can change our environment.’

Theatre and performance is a huge draw to this festival with the Cirque Du Sziget, the festival’s annual circus performance, street theatre performances, and comedy and talk shows in the Magic Mirror LGBT venue. Sziget Festival also plays host to the World Living Statues Festival, where 10 carefully selected statues perform to win over a Jury and the votes of festival visitors.

The funfair, games tent, chess tent, and sports zones offer places to unwind after hours of dancing and partying, alongside museum, arts, and cinema installations that offer just a taste of Budapest’s history and culture.
