Rock in Roma 2024: A month long music celebration in the Italian Capital

Pioneering big beats and creating some of the best dance music ever the event has become one of Italy’s largest music festivals and attracts around 300,000 music fans from all over Italy and the world. Global acts play on huge outdoor stages, arenas and clubs all over the ancient city.

Many concerts take place at the Capannelle Racecourse with other premier venues that include the enormous Ippodromo delle Capannelle, Circo Massimo and Ostia Antica, ensuring unforgettable night rocking out under Roman sky.

A special event mid month, during the festival, Holi, the festival of colors comes to life , an Indian festival where participants colour their skins with brigh colour dyes and adds to the vibrance and colour of the concerts held on those nights.

Where does Rock in Roma take place?

Rome is the capital city of Italy. Rome is located in the central portion of the Italian peninsula, on the Tiber River 24 km inland from the Tyrrhenian Sea. It’s population of 2.3 million people makes it the largest city in the Lazio region.

How to get around Rome

As a large tourism city, Rome has many modes of transport to choose from. There is a shuttle bus services direct to the events and to Rome itself from Leonardo Da Vinci – Fiumicino Airport and Ciampino Airport.

Termini train services stop all over the city, with the main train stop for the events being Capannelle, about 700 meters from the venue, and a 9 minute ride from the centre of the city.

The nearest bus stop (Capannelle – Appia nuova) is 100 meters from the main entrance to the venue. There are both metro bus services and night bus services. It is a 30 minute car or taxi service ride from the centre of the city to the main venue Capannelle.

Where to stay for Rock in Roma

There are thousands of hotels, guesthouses, bed and breakfasts and budget accommodations like hostels available throughout the city.

Mercure Roma Centro Colosseo is a few hundred metres from the main archaeological sites and the majestic Colosseum and public transport. It offers a terrace with city views, outdoor pool, roof bar, lobby bar and bistro, indoor car parking, babysitters, WiFi and air-conditioning.

Generator Rome is the city’s first ‘poshtel’, a chic, boutique accommodation with a youthful vibe and a contemporary-meets-retro décor. Dormitories have a maximum of four beds each, while the private rooms all have double beds. All rooms have en suite bathrooms, air conditioning, Wi-Fi and heating, with no televisions. The ground-level cafe, bar and lounge are comfortable and tidy hang out zones, and the rooftop terrace has a spectacular panoramic view. There is a 5 euro breakfast buffet with amazing food.

Things to do in Rome

There wont be enough time to see everything in Rome, there is so much to choose from. With nearly 3,000 years of globally influential art, architecture and culture on display most of the museums and significant buildings are free to enter.

Give your feet a rest by taking up the ‘110open’ open-top bus from Piazza Venezia. The full two-hour tour takes in St Peter’s, Castel Sant’Angelo, Palazzo del Quirinale, even jumping off for a quick photo of the Trevi Fountain, the Colosseum and Forum, and Circo Massimo.

Visit the Pantheon in it’s first hour of opening and you will miss the crowds. Still impressive is the fact that it retained the title of world’s largest free-standing dome until the beginning of the 20th century, even the bronze doors are still intact.  The open oculus at the centre of the dome adds drama to the interior, and is the key to the building’s continued stability.
