A Weekend Of Americana and R & B at Red Rooster Festival

A love for all things found in America’s deep south is what you’ll find at the Red Rooster Festival. Held in the gorgeous surrounds of Suffolk in the United Kingdom, the family-friendly event is open to all: kids, the young ones, the young once, and even dogs. Everyone is welcome to have a rockin’ good time in the gorgeous woodlands, where you’re free to roam about and relax amongst the corn fields and campfires as you are serenaded by incredibly soulful music.

The weekend festivities are your chance to go all out in true southern style. The event organizers are very particular about their music, so you can be sure the lineup will impress. Americana, rhythm & blues, roots, country, soul, and blues are all well-represented by a carefully curated roster of talented artists. Past performances included Big Steve, Nick Lowe, King Khan and The Shrines, The Handsome Family, and CW Stoneking. For 2019, the likes of Pokey LaFarge, Eli Paperboy Reed with the High & Mighty Brass Band, the Alabama 3 Acoustic, and Gill Landry will be delivering the good vibes.

There will be vendors making the most delicious whiskey cocktails, and pop-up kitchens filling you up with the best grub in town including mac and cheese, burritos, burgers, meatballs, and of course, deep south fried chicken! Seriously, the best hangover food. Vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free options will be available too.

Red Rooster Festival will take place at the Euston Hall in Euston, Suffolk. The tickets vary from Snoozin’ Rooster (weekend ticket inclusive of camping) and Saturday tickets. Kids below the age of 12 are completely free. You may also want to consider thoughtful add-ons for your convenience such as the Dog Tickets, Family Camping Pass, and a variety of vehicle passes especially for those bringing cars or motorhomes.

How to get around Suffolk

Spectators who are staying within the festival grounds via camping or motorvans will have no issues getting around, as everything will be within walking distance. This is the most efficient and comfortable way to enjoy the weekend.

However, those staying in the nearby towns are better off driving or hiring a car rental. You’ll need to make use of the tube and hop on a car if you’re coming from London, though.

Where to stay for Red Rooster Festival

The best way to experience the festival is to rough it up in a campsite, camper van, caravan, or a motorhome. If you prefer to get cozy in a hotel after the festival, consider Bury St Edmunds (25 minute drive), Norwich (30 minute drive), or Ipswich (40 minute drive). London is around 2 hours away, while Brighton is 2.5 hours away.

Things to do in the area

Head over to Southwold where you can do as the English do, but in a posh location: chug some beers at the pubs and breweries, lay back at the beach, and take some photos at the picturesque pier. Have authentic fish and chips aboard the Felixstowe Ferry as you go on a short trip to Bawdsey. Suffolk’s nightlife is more relaxed, but the live music acts don’t have to stop at the festival. There are several excellent venues for local music, best paired with some traditional ales.
