As you may have heard, Reading Festival is a split venue festival meaning that on the same weekend with almost the same artists there is another festival located in Leeds.
Quite often you will hear Reading Festival referred to as Reading Leeds festival and there’s quite a bit of controversy as to which one is better, of course, we are completely impartial to the matter. Back in the day the festival was purely rock music but as the music industry continued to evolve so did Reading festival, now they feature music from many genres including rock, hip-hop, alternative, dance, and metal.

Reading Festival is a hugely intense 3-day festival where partying is quite literally, non-stop, you will probably need to take a whole week of rest afterward. There are 7 stages located throughout the festival grounds some of which include the BBC stages, the pit, festival republic, and the alternative stage all featuring incredible headliners.
You are definitely going to need to grab a program on arrival. Tens of thousands of people flock the streets to get to Reading Festival and with such impressive headliners, you can see why.

The Festival is held at Richfield Avenue in Reading just over 2 miles from Reading town center. Driving to the festival is an option but you will need to purchase a car pass. Festival-goers are being urged to book a coach ticket to reduce traffic and to save on fuel emissions. Reading Festival is partnered with Big Green Coach company which are the only coaches that can access the festivals coach carpark.
Other unofficial companies will have to drop off a lot further away which could result in a 25-minute walk. Big Green Coach pickup and drop-off from 41 locations around the UK and offer several timeslots to choose from. Prices will depend on which location you are traveling from.
A full weekend festival pass starts from £220 and children 12 years or younger get free admittance as long as they supervised by a guardian of 18 years or over who has a festival pass. Individual day tickets are available from £70 per day.
Campervans are permitted onsite as long as they meet the size requirements, but it will cost an additional £75. If you don’t have your own camping gear there are many options available both onsite and just outside the festival grounds. You can hire basic tents and matting or luxury mobile homes with locking doors and a power supply. If you are rocking it “festival style basic” there are secure lockers that you can hire dotted around the site for £20.
Reading is a university town which provides a wide range of accommodation for all budgets. There is a selection of Premier Inns and small B&Bs, stylish apartments, traditional guest houses, AirBnB’s and large hotels to choose from.
The area is very popular so if you are looking for accommodation around the time of the festival do so as soon as possible.
Although Reading is classed as a town it’s actually the largest town in the UK and it’s probably bigger than some cities. Reading is a very characteristic town that offers many things to see and do.
Discover Readings history by visiting the areas museums, the abbey, and the Roman amphitheater ruins. Explore the fragrant gardens and wildlife centers throughout the town whilst checking out the vast range of shops.
There is a room escape center in Reading that comes highly rated where you have to crack codes to figure out how to get out of locked rooms. Alternatively, there are many outdoor activities to choose from including archery, high ropes, rock climbing, woodland laser quest, and much more.
Reading is only a 1-hour drive from London and with regular public transport leaving from the center of town, you could always head into the capital for the day.
Reading festival opens the gates at 8 am on Thursday, August 22th 2024 with the festival officially kicking off on Friday the 23 of August 2024.
Of course, if you arrive on Thursday you can guarantee there will be a massive party throughout the whole campsite that night. The festival will finish on Sunday the 25th of August 2024.
