Moga Festival: A Musical And Cultural Celebration In Morocco

Experience the juxtaposition of old and new at the Moga Festival, held at the filming location of the Red City from the cult favorite, Game of Thrones.

Essaouira, Morocco, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a historic destination that has long been captivating travelers from all over the world. The Moga Festival is the best way to experience this enchanting destination. Step back in time with its rich architectural heritage, and immerse yourself in the vibrant culture blending old tradition in a hippie paradise punctuated by a one-of-a-kind musical event.

The Moga Festival may be brand new in the music festival industry, but they are no doubt already impressive, having placed Africa in the map for international music festivals. In 2018, incredible acts including DJ Tennis, Ron Morelli, Mind Against, Acid Pauli, Agoria, Guy Gerber, DoP and Stavroz graced the stages. This year more than 40 artists will be relayed around 3 scenes in an exceptional setting. In between sets, enjoy the dozens of delightful activities that the organizers have planned out: beach parties, musical brunches, digital video installations, and educational workshops among others.

‘Three days of electronic music and the digital arts are enhanced by the blissful sensory experiences available for your enjoyment in Morocco’s beautiful port town of Essaouira.’

Come for the Moga Festival, stay for the culture. We bet you’ll leave Morocco with a brand-new love for life after this experience.

Things to do in Essaouira when the Moga Festival 2019 is on

One of the best things about Essaouira is its laid-back atmosphere. The town itself isn’t very big, and there are nearby beaches that add to its holiday vibe. The souqs (bazaars) and medinas are highly recommended, but prepare for the overwhelming array of sights, colors, sounds, and smells here.

Take a stroll through the medina, which is especially beautiful at sunset. It is walled, just like the other old towns of Morocco, but it’s extra impressive in Essaouira since they’re built on cliffs. After the festival, reinvigorate yourself by going to a hammam to try a traditional steam bath. Take home some argan oil; better yet, visit an argan oil cooperative where you can observe women using traditional tools to hand press the oils to create the world’s best argan beauty products.

By night, Essaouira is just as enchanting. Have some beachfront cocktails or sip some wine at upscale rooftop bars. No matter what it is you’re into, Essaouira will have something for you.

Make a trip out of it? Rugged coastline stretching along the Atlantic ocean, jagged mountain peaks over the Atlas Mountains, and waves of dunes stretching across the Sahara for as far as the eyes can see, the mid-south of Morocco is where you want to be. It’s hard to cover the whole country in one visit, so we’ve narrowed it down a bit for you. Read more about 6 of the best places to visit in Morocco that you’ll never forget.
