Meo Sudoeste 2019: A Portuguese Coastal Giant

Meo Sudoeste has grown to become one of the biggest festivals in Portugal. The annual five-day spectacular takes place in the coastal town of Zambujeira do Mar in Odemira, Portugal. 2019 marks the 23rdedition of Portugal’s festival giant and MEO are bringing a range of impressive names to the south. The primarily dance music focused lineup features a range of EDM giants and big room names; however, the lineup also extends to other genres. Hip Hop and reggae are among the other popular styles that can be found at the huge summer event.

This year’s edition welcomes a range of headlining acts, with more names still to be announced. Post Malone, Anitta, Russ, Steve Aoki and TimmyTrumpetwill headline the 23rd edition of Meo Sudoeste. Sharing the stage will be the likes of 6lack, Years & Years, Jimmy P, Carolina Deslandes and Vitor Kley.

Meo Sudoeste takes place in the Portuguese region of Zambujeria do Mar in Odemira, Portugal. You can find the event at Herdade da Casa Branca, na Zambujeira do Mar (Odemira) no Alentejo, 7630 Zambujeira do Mar, Portugal.

 How to get around Odemira

Located in the Southern region of Portugal, Odemira is approximately 2 hours from Lisbon. The nearest major airport is Lisbon Portela Airport, however many budget airlines frequently operate through the nearby Faro Airport. Upon arrival, visitors can travel to the festival both by car and public transport. A range of car rental options are available at the airport as well as throughout the city, offering affordable and reliable transportation during your visit. You can travel to the festival from Lisbon via the A12 and A2 motorways.

Visitors can travel to the festival from most major cities in Portugal, via the intercidades, regional and inter-regional trains. The nearest railway station is Santa Clara – Sabóia. Visitors can also travel directly to and from the festival by bus. The Rede Expressos guarantees services departing from the major cities of Lisbon, Porto and Braga.

Throughout the festival, free shuttles will operate between the camping site and the beach in Zambujeira do Mar. Buses will run between 10 am and 7 pm from August 4-10 for everyone with a camping wristband.

Where to stay for Meo Sudoeste

Meo Sudoeste offers free camping and parking for visitors with a full festival pass. The campgrounds are fully equipped with working showers and bathrooms, cash machines, first aid stations, food areas, a supermarket, dishwashing and laundry services, security and more. If you are driving to the campgrounds, you can also purchase a car camping upgrade. Car Camping allows visitors to park their car next to their tents in a larger reserved space.

For those who don’t want to bring their own camping supplies, the festival also offers a range of accommodation packages. The Nomad Pop Up Hotel offers a glamping experience with cotton tents in a private area with private access to the canal; starting at 20 euros per night per person. The Free Spirit Campers package offers a ‘set up yourself’ solution, with an easy-to-build tent for two and camping mattresses included. The tent rental package starts at only 15 euros.

There are also a number of nearby hotels available, located just a short walk from the festival grounds. Nearby hotels include WOW Alentejo, Bairro do Simplício and Residencial Rita. You can explore a range of nearby options below.

Things to do in Odemira

The small town of Odemira offers a range of things to see and do. Parque das Águas is one of the many stunning parks and gardens located in the heart of the town, featuring walking and running trails, as well as a range of local flora. For those interested in an outdoor adventure, Rota Vicentina is a network of walking trails located in the south west of Portugal. The trails pass through Odemira and extend to the coastlines; offering breathtaking panoramic views. The neighbouring area of Zambujeira do Mar features a number of popular beaches and cliffs. Popular beaches include Tonel Beach, Praia da Zambujeira and Praia do Carvalhal.
