Medocaine VTT 2024: Discover Medoc on a Bike!

‘Sportsmen disguised and smiling’ is the perfect way to describe France’s Medocaine VTT. The annual event celebrates 20+ years of fun in May. Nearly 6500 visitors and disguised mountain bikes will discover seven different courses across the Arsac sports plains.

The most spectacular ‘oeno-sportive’ hike in the world crosses over 50 castles from the Margaux, Haut-Medoc, Moulis, Listrac and Bordeaux Supérieur wine appellations. The atmosphere of the event is strongly linked to fancy dress; with visitors often showing up in a range of creative and entertaining costumes.

Customising bikes to match the costume or simply stand out from the crowd is also highly encouraged. There’s no limit to the imaginations of 6500 cyclists!

“The greatest annual mountain bike race around France’s southern Medoc welcome’s 6500 participants on the startling of the plain of sports of Arsac.”

The Médocaine VTT takes place in the French town of Medoc, in Arsac, France. You can find the event at 2 Impasse de la Marine, 33460 Arsac, France.

Things to do in Medoc

Home to some of the finest wines in the world and over 100km of sandy beaches, the region of Medoc is one of the most vibrant cities in France. The entire eastern side of the peninsula is dedicated to vineyards and wines; making wine tours one of the most popular attractions in the region.

Many venues are open for wine tastings daily so make sure to explore everything from Maison de Vins and beyond.

The western part of the region is primarily covered in forests; forming part of the largest forest in France. Cycling and hiking are popular activities among visitors in the forests, but a range of walking and running trails are also available to get used to the unique environment.

Where to stay in Medoc

The town of Arsac allows participants to pitch tents near the village of Medocaine; however, it is not an official campground and therefore, facilities such as showers and sanitation are very limited.

A number of accommodation options ranging from hotels to Airbnbs are available in the surrounding areas. You can explore nearby options below.

If you are interested in a more luxurious stay to explore Medoc, there are a range of options. Château Cordeillan-Bages offers five-star luxury in the heart of the vineyards.

Also known as the ‘pink palace’, Château Loudenne is every girl’s dream; with old fashioned French style rooms and a stunning rose garden.

Finally, Château Ormes de Pez is a favourite among visitors as well as locals; offering the best hospitality in town!

How to get around Medoc

There are a number of ways to get to and around the region of Medoc. The nearest major airport is Bordeaux Airport, located approximately an hour north-west of Medoc.

Shuttles connect the airport to the city centre of Bordeaux, where a number of public transport options are available.

Car rentals are available both at the airport as well as the city centre and offer the easiest and most flexible method of transportation.

A number of buses and trains also operate between Medoc and nearby city centres.
