Houghton Festival 2019: A celebration of art and music in the Norfolk countryside

Houghton Festival is one of the UK’s hottest new music festivals. Taking place in the Norfolk countryside, the music never stops at the four-day event; with a 24-hour licence allowing round-the-clock entertainment. Since the first edition in 2017, the event has skyrocketed onto everyone’s bucket lists and is one of the hottest summer music festivals in the country.

This year’s edition will welcome a range of local and international talent. At Houghton Festival, the specially curated lineup will feature spontaneous back-to-back sets and longer DJ sets are considered the norm. The likes of A-Future, A.L.F.O.S, Midland, Nicolas Lutz, Call Super and more will all showcase their talent throughout the event. There will also be a number of exclusive live performances from the likes of C.A.R, Blotter Trax, Awkward Moments, Rhythm Force, Magic Mountain High and more.

Houghton Festival takes place at Houghton Hall in Norfolk, UK. You can find the event at Houghton Hall, King’s Lynn PE31 6UE, UK. 

How to get around Norfolk

The nearest major airport is Norwich International Airport, located approximately 45 minutes east of Norfolk. You can also fly into London Stansted Airport; located just over an hour south of Norfolk. Trains and buses are readily available throughout the city to transfer visitors from the airport, as well as around Norfolk. 

The festival is easily accessible by both car and public transport. If you are driving to the event, the venue is located half a mile off the A148 in King’s Lynn. Once you turn off the exit, you can follow the festival access signs to the event. Parking is available on site for 10 pounds per vehicle and can be pre-purchased online in advance.

If you are travelling by public transport, you can take the train to Ely or Kings Lynn. Due to limited services returning on Sunday and Monday, it is recommended to travel to and from Ely. Taxis and shuttle buses will be available at both stations to transfer visitors to and from the event. For long-distance travel, the festival has partnered up coach services to provide bus transportation from Birmingham, Bristol, Chelmsford, Liverpool, London, Manchester, Norwich, Oxford and Peterborough.

Houghton Festival offers an official campground for visitors; where you can bring your own tent and camping gear or purchase a pre-setup package. The public camping area features a number of regular pre-pitched tents, located in Tangerine Fields. The festival also offers boutique camping, with a wide range of options. Boutique Camping options include Portobello bell tents, Airstreams, Tipis, Luxury Vintage Canvas Tents and more. 

For those not wishing to camp, the city of Norfolk offers a wide range of accommodation options including hotels, hostels, Airbnb, farmhouses and more. Things to do in Norfolk

The city of Norfolk features a number of things to see and do. Norfolk features a number of historic and royal estates throughout the region. One of the most popular attractions is Holkham Hall, a historic state home and attraction; featuring ornate interiors, a garden, museum and more. Nearby, you can also find Sandringham Estate, another popular site known for it’s Royal family-owned country estate with more than 400 acres of country park and gardens. Other popular estates include Blickling Estate and Felbrigg Hall, Gardens and Estate.

In the city centre, you can also find a range of things to see and do. Popular attractions include the Norwich Castle Museum and Art Gallery and the 11th-century Norwich Cathedral. Norfolk is also home to a wide range of gardens and natural parks. Pensthorpe Natural Park features a 700-acre nature reserve and woodland conservation park, with interactive running trails, eco play areas and more. Other popular outdoor areas include the BeWILDerwood outdoor treehouse adventure park and Sheringham Park.
