The Highland Fling 2017

The Highland Fling is Australia’s longest running and most iconic mountain bike marathon race.

For 12 years now, Wild Horizons has been hosting a mountain biking event in Bundanoon, Southern Island in NSW. Highland Fling has four categories divided by distance and ranging from 23 km to 160 km.

The event features different tracks from single track, rough/ 4WD track, dirt road and sealed road. The event starts at 11 AM on Saturday and as early as 5:30 AM on Sunday.

This years’ race will also act as a fundraiser for Save the Children, raising money to support the work they do for children and families worldwide.

Where to View the Highland Fling

The Highland Fling this year will take place on 11th and 12th November 2017 in Bundanoon. The course will pass by Penrose and Wingello State Forests, Jumping Rock private property, Free Bike Wash, and Paddy’s River on the way to the Ground Effect Stage. Viewers are welcome to watch the competition in designated areas at the starting and finish lines.

How to Get Around Bundanoon

You can ride a train from the Southern Highlands to Goulburn with some trips requiring switching trains. Getting around of Bundanoon can be done by bike or on foot. There are also taxis and coaches available for tourists and visitors.

Things to Do in the Southern Highlands

1. Bundanoon is known to be a cycling and bushwalking destination. Walk the wonderful trails of Morton National Park and see the Fairy Bower Falls, the scenic views of the Lovers, Mount Carnarvon and Riverview. If you are lucky enough, you might be able to witness the glowing larvae in the Glow Worm Glen in the evening.

2. Go wine tasting in the Southern Highlands Vineyards.

3. If you have the time, visit Fitzroy Falls, which is located outside Bundanoon, just a few minutes ride.
