Great Wall Festival 2021 Huairou, China Huairou ChinaDoes it get much more spectacular than enjoying a music festival at The Great Wall of China?! We’re not sure! For listeners of electronic music, the Great Wall Festival is a pretty incredible way to enjoy the sounds you love and is considered one of the best electro music festivals in Asia.
Located at an impressive section of one of the New Seven Wonders of the World, this two-day festival of electro music plays host to some much-loved techno and house DJs. Although the line-up for 2021 is yet to be released, we’re sure the festival will name some awesome sets as they have done in the past.
Despite being located in the back and beyond, the festival manages to pump out the music and put on a full audio/visual show that you’d expect of any regular gig venue (as long as the generators comply!). Last year, DJ Nina Kraviz played on the top of a tower while the mist rose and the sun came up – just stunning!
The Great Wall Festival also combines running with the electro event as festivalgoers can choose to take part in a Great Wall 5km Run. Runners can take in the breath-taking views as they pound down The Great Wall celebrating with a medal and festival music at the end.
VIP ticket packages include tickets to both events, entrance to The Great Wall, free lockers, fast-lane entry and a runners’ t-shirt and medal.
The exact location of The Great Wall Festival is released closer to the event but you’ll know it will be somewhere along the 21km length of the Ming Dynasty Wall! The festival will be within easy reaching distance of Beijing.
If you love electro you’re sure to want to get up close to the stage watching the DJs perform as you dance the night away.
After you’ve partied all night at the Great Wall Electro Festival or run 5km along the wall you may want to simply relax. However, when in a city like Beijing there is so much going on that it would be a shame to miss out!
Aside from exploring (part of) the length of the Great Wall, visitors must head to Tiananmen Square, step into the Forbidden City and wander through China’s crazy food markets where you can pretty much buy anything!
If you have a little longer in Beijing, why not head out to the Beijing 2008 Bird’s Nest Stadium or the Chairman Mao memorial. Or, if you’ve got way too much time on your hands, the Watermelon Museum!
Beijing has a wealth of accommodation to suit all travelers. From five-star hotels to modern Airbnbs and budget-friendly backpacker hostels, there is something for everyone. Public transport within Beijing is great so whether you stay in Wangfujing, Nanluoguxiang or Gulou you’ll be able to easily get around the city.
A shuttle service from Beijing to The Great Wall is available during the festival for around 140rmb for the two days. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or public transport (depending on the exact location of the festival).
The next Great Wall Festival will run on May 1-3,2021.
