Portmeirion, Penrhyndeudraeth, Wales

Welcome to Festival Number 6 – an award winning music, arts and culture festival situated in a quirky Riviera inspired village on the North Wales coastline

Everything about Festival No. 6 is aligned with the ethos of the nearby village of Portmeirion, Gwynedd, North Wales, United Kingdom. The Mediterranean style village surrounded by estuaries, woodland and the Welsh country side – a lot of which is grade II listed – transforms into a bizarre festival showcasing music, arts and a melting pot of culture.

The music, this year headlined by The The, Franz Ferdinand, and Friendly Fires, is full of up and coming artists and DJs in a variety of styles. The line up also features comedians and speakers who take to the stage to entertain, educate, and get you thinking about the hot topics of the day. Theatre and cabaret is also on display such as the legendary Saturday Night Spectacle, which has become one of the festival’s biggest draws over the years turning the main stage into a theatre of magic and experience.

However, the music is the just the tip of the ice berg at this festival. Much like the nearby town is seemingly misplaced, the festival is also full of quirks that make it a truly unique experience. The carnival and torchlit procession bring the whole festival together in a party. A number of wellness activities are available too such a woodland run, yoga sessions and a yoga brunch. And the more indulgent visitors will love the woodfired hot tubs, which can be hired for groups of 6 to enjoy.

The festival’s Global Street Food Village is where you can find a delicious offering of world foods to take away and continue to enjoy the festival, but luxury is key here with a different Michelin Starred chef producing a menu for each night of the festival at the nearby Hotel Portmeirion.

Tickets are on sale now with day tickets starting at £59 and weekend tickets £180. Woodfired hot tubs, dinner resservations, VIP upgrades, travel, and much more can be added on and managed online to ensure that you have nothing to worry about at the festival.

‘Festival Number 6 has something for everyone from the rock music fan with a pop-up tent under their arm to the discerning traveller wanting to stay in luxury and sample fine cuisines.’

How to get around

Getting to the festival is easy from pretty much anywhere in the UK; trains run direct from cities all over the country to Bangor, where a complimentary shuttle will pick you up and take you over to the festival site. Alternatively their ‘Big Green Shuttle’ also runs from all over the country and will drop you off and pick you up right in the heart of the festival.

Portmeirion is a historic city with many Grade II listed sites, so if you want to travel by car the festival offer a park and ride service to lower the risk of increased traffic damaging the area. The festival has also partnered up with GoCarShare – one of the UK’s most popular car sharing apps to make the festival as environmentally sound as possible.

Where to stay for Festival Number 6?

Camping is the preferred accommodation for most weekend ticket holders – standard camping tickets are available for people bringing their own tent or camper van, but at Festival No. 6 camping doesn’t necessarily mean zipping up your tent and praying you’ll wake up dry. Luxury Bell Tents, Tipis, Lodges, and Wood Hut Suites are just a few of the ‘Glamping’ options provided by the festival.

If you’re only planning on doing a day at the festival or want to stay somewhere more comfortable still a number of hotels, cottages and guest houses are located in the nearby town of Portmeirion – one of which is located in a Victorian mansion The Castell Deudreath. These options all sell out quickly so book in advance!

Things to do in Portmeirion?

North Wales is fall of things to do and see; Portmeirion itself is located just outside of Snowdonia National Park, less than an hour away from Mount Snowdon, Wales’ highest mountain and a popular hiking site.

Portmeirion itself was designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis who wanted to create an attractive, private village that would ‘act as propaganda for good manners’ and it is a truly unique place. The Central Piazza is full of Riviera inspired buildings and quaint gardens surrounded by boutique shops and cafes. The coastline boasts a number of must do attractions such as the quayside and pool at the estuary.

Festival Number 6 Dates

The festival takes place on 6th – 9th September 2018.
