April 28 marks the first running of Coastal Ascent for 2019, and it will be seen as a must-do on the Trail Calendar. Located at the stunning northern Merewether Beach, the course will quite literally take your breath away! Offering both an 11km and 25km course, Coastal Ascent starts and finishes at the Dixon Park Precinct. Runners and supporters are provided with an epic finishing experience down Bathers Way.

With a 25km trail run, 11km trail run and the Kids Beach Bolt Mile- there’s something for everyone at Coastal Ascent. The 25km trail run is open to those aged 16 and over on the day of the race. Children aged 11-15 can join adults 11Am 6 and older in the 11km trail run. Finally, the Kid’s Beach Bolt Mile is open to those aged 12 or under on the day of the race.
The Coastal Ascent Trail Run event takes place at Dixon Park at Merewether Beach, in NSW, Australia. (Ocean St, Merewether NSW 2291, Australia).
Merewether is located approximately 2.5 hours north of Sydney, in the coastal city of Newcastle. The nearest major airport is Sydney International Airport, however, a significantly closer Newcastle Airport also operates frequent flights. If you are travelling from Sydney, Newcastle or nearby major cities, a range of intercity buses and trains are available.
A range of local bus routes pass through the Merewether area, stopping at Dixon Park and Merewether Beach. A number of small car parks are available and within walking distance of the event. Free street parking is also available.
There are many accomodation options available in and around the Merewether and greater Newcastle region. Options ranging from hotels, motels campgrounds and private rentals are all available; meeting all budget levels. You can explore some of the nearby accomodation options below.
Merewether is home to one of NSW’s most iconic beaches along the 2,137km coastline. It was also declared as one of only 20 National Surfing Reserves in the country. The beach offers competitive surfboard riding conditions for experienced surfers. A generous number of lifeguards are present during swimming season, patrolling the beach and keeping visitors safe all week long. Visitors can also explore the historic Ladies Rock Pool and heritage listed Surf House as well as the Merewether Ocean Baths; all within walking distance of each other.
