Carnival of Cultures 2024: Experience Berlin’s Most Colourful Side

Carnival of Cultures is the most colourful and multicultural festivals in Berlin, Germany. Taking place every summer at Pentecost, the city is transformed into a carnival celebrating multicultural diversity with a range of cultural performances, traditional cuisines and more.

One of the highlights of the event is the colourful street parade which takes place on Sunday and features over 4,000 local and international participants.

Berlin’s Carnival of Cultures features a range of attractions from culinary delights to cultural showcases and more. More than 350 stands can be found around Blücherplatz, featuring a range of arts and crafts, information on local initiatives, culinary delights and more.

The event also showcases a range of captivating sounds; from African drums to exotic samba, jazz music and more. You can celebrate at the Global Village around Blücherplatz throughout the weekend from 11 am to midnight before the famous street parade sets off in Yockstrasse and Großbeerenstrasse on the final day.

Things to do in Berlin

The German capital of Berlin offers a range of popular things to see and do. The city is home to a number of iconic landmarks such as the Brandenburg Gate, a restored 18th-century gate and the Berlin Cathedral Church, an elaborate 19th-century cathedral and dome.

The historic home of parliament ‘Reichstag Building’ is also frequently visited by tourists and features a glass dome with 360-degree views of the city. For panoramic views of the city, the Berliner Fernsehturm tower also offers 360-degree views, with a viewing gallery at 203m and a revolving restaurant at 207m.

The city is also known for its Holocaust Memorial, featuring 2711 columns commemorating the murdered Jews of Europe.

How to get around Berlin

The city of Berlin features a range of frequent and reliable public transport options, making it easy to travel to and around the city. The city features two main airports: Berlin Tegel Airport, located approximately 25 minutes from the city centre; and Berlin Schönefeld Airport, located approximately 40 minutes from the city centre. A 3rd airport is being built.

Direct buses and trains are available at the airports, making transfers between the airport and city quick and easy.

When travelling around Berlin, the quickest and easiest way to get around is via the Underground (U-Bahn). You can also find regular trains (S-Bahn), trams and metro trams and buses throughout the city.

You can easily travel to the event by public transport. The nearest underground stop is Hallesches Tor, which is around 10 minutes from the city centre and a short walk to Blücherplatz.

You can take bus lines 140, N7 or M19 directly to the start of the parade on at Yockstrasse and Großbeerenstrasse.
