The BMW Berlin Marathon 2020 has been canceled. See you in 2021!
One of the most happening events in Germany is a marathon that started over half a century ago. The Berlin Marathon happens to be one of the biggest and most well-known marathons worldwide. The race was founded by a Berlin baker, named Horst Milde in 1974.
More than 40,000 participants along with millions of spectators from over 120 countries gather on the course every year. Their cheers are accompanied by 70 live bands and dance groups performing in procession. The participants race through Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column.
Taking part in the Berlin Marathon is one of the most exciting and memorable experiences for all. The path of the marathon is a flat ground in the form of a wide-set looping course, and the running event is organized during mild pleasant weather.
“Of all the races, there is no better stage for heroism than a marathon.”
Around eleven world records have been broken in this marathon, and maybe you could break the twelfth. Eliud Kipchoges finished the marathon with a new world record by running 2:01:39 in 2018.
A 42-kilometer race filled with excitement and set in a fantastic atmosphere boosts the energy of participants as they run through Brandenburg gate, past the grandstands on their last 400 meters to reach the finish line on the Boulevard “Strasse des 17. Juni”.
Aid stations can be found at small intervals on the right-hand side of the course, which offer refreshments to all participants including tea, juices, water, fruits, and energy bars.
A number of toilet cabins will also be installed at the end of every refreshment station as well as at the start and finish area. With as many facilities as festivities, the Berlin Marathon is fully equipped to be one of the best athletic events you ever participate in.
The marathon takes place at Straße des 17. Juni, 10557 Berlin.
Berlin is a huge city, but the public transportation system in the city is extremely efficient. You can take S-Bahn – a speedy and comfortable elevated train that provides an excellent way to explore the city in detail.
Or opt for the U-Bahn – an underground train, which is the fastest and most convenient way to get around Berlin. The train usually departs every 3 to 5 minutes.
You can also hail taxis for your transportation. Although the taxis are a bit expensive, they are also a more efficient option if you need to get to a specific place. The fare starts from €3.40 and it costs around €1.79 per kilometer. Usually, most of the taxi stands are in the main central areas. However, you can call a cab service to send a taxi to your doorstep.
You can find a cheap hostel in the central Mitte district named the A&O Berlin Mitte. The hostel is hardly a 7-minute walk away from Heinrich-Heine-Straße U-Bahn station. They offer Wi-Fi along with a common area where you can watch TV.
