Bergenfest 2024: History And Music Fusion In Norway

No other festival lets you soak up so much good music in such a beautiful historic location. The venue is no other than the Bergenhus Fortress, the site of a medieval castle and fortress located in the city center of Bergen, Norway. A variety of dance-worthy genres are well-represented at the Bergenfest; from electronica, Americana, pop and rock, blues, and indie. There are several stages located both indoors and outdoors, but regardless of where you spend your time rocking it out, the spirit of good ol’ revelry is so tangible and contagious. But perhaps what festival goers appreciate the most about this event is that it has maintained its intimate ambiance through the years, yet every performance is intense and dramatic.

‘Get ready to experience the feels with your favorite acts, and with your best buddies by your side at Bergenfest.’

Festival goers look forward to the grub and drinks at the Bergenfest. Several stalls will be selling delightful fare, including tacos, sushi, burgers, as well as vegan, vegetarian, and gluten-free delights.

Where to view Bergenfest

Bergenfest takes place at the historical Bergenhus Fortress, with massive lawn spaces and some parts which date back to the 1500’s, making for one unforgettable festival venue. The three outdoor venues within the Bergenhus: the main stage is located at Plenen, followed by the Bastion and the Heart Bank. The two indoor venues are Magic Mirrors, an art-noveau inspired tent, and the Hahonshallen, a medieval festival venue.

Separate festival passes for those under 18, and 18 and above, are available. The minimum age to attend the festival is 15 years old.

Things to do in Bergen

Bergen is the second biggest city in Norway, home to significant periods in the country’s colorful past. Tucked in between the incredibly scenic fjords and seven mountains, Bergen offers lots to do for both city and outdoor lovers.

Known as the city of seven mountains, no trip to Bergen is complete without visiting at least one of these majestic sights. The most accessible of these is Fløyen, which is connected to the city center. Getting to the top will take less than 10 minutes, and from here you will be rewarded with enchanting views of the city and nearby surrounds. The seafood in Bergen is insanely fresh, thanks to its extensive coastline. Sink your teeth into marine delights at the Bergen Fish Market, where the array of colorful treasures from the ocean will blow your mind.

Bergen’s nightlife offers an exciting experience worth of exploring as well. There is a wide range of diverse watering holes for every taste, but make sure that you get to try some of the local schnapps, vodka, and beer.
