Graspop Metal Meeting is one of Belgium’s leading heavy metal festivals. Held in the town of Dessel, the three-day event annually welcomes more than 50,000 visitors each year. Things to do in Dessel

The small town of Dessel offers a number of recreational attractions and activities. The Provincial Recreation Domain and Silver Lake is a popular lake and camping site for visitors and locals. Pagadderpad is a popular hiking destination, which offers scenic walking trails.

If you are travelling from the nearby major city of Antwerp, you can find a range of things to do. Popular attractions include The Rubens House museum, the Cathedral of Our Lady Antwerp and the Antwerpen Zoo.

Where to stay in Dessel

Graspop has arranged five accommodation options for visitors. Beside the festival arena, you can find the official campground. The campground is available for visitors to pitch their own tent or rent a pre-pitched tent. For visitors looking for a more peaceful and luxurious camping setting, the brand new Camping Skullotel can be found 1.5km from the festival arena. Campers travelling with a motorhome or caravan, or want to pre-book a festihut, can stay at the Metal Town campsite.

Located 15km from the festival grounds, visitors can book a bungalow or hotel room at Metal Park. Finally, you can find cottages at Devil’s Lake, which is 25km from the festival grounds.

A number of nearby hotels and holiday rentals can also be found, which are located just a short drive to the festival in Dessel. Hotels include the Alauda Hotel and Hotel “Golden Dragon”. You can explore all the nearby accommodation options on the map below. 

How to get around Dessel

Located near the northern border of Belgium, the nearest airports are Antwerp (Belgium) and Eindhoven (Netherlands). Upon arrival, the easiest way to travel to Dessel is by train. Visitors can travel to the nearest station, which is Mol, where a free shuttle bus will transport you to the festival site. If you are travelling from within Belgium, you can purchase a return train ticket from any Belgian train station for only 10 euros via SNCB. If you are travelling to or from an airport station, the Diabolo airport fee will be automatically added to the fare.

A number of organised coach services are also available from most major cities in the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium. A number of travel partners also offer combined travel and festival packages from the UK, Spain, Scandinavia, Israel, Central and South America and Ukraine.

The easiest way to get to the festival is by bike or public transport. Areas surrounding the festival grounds will be closed to all motorised traffic so it is not recommended to drive to the event. Bicycle parking is available near the main festival entrance and is free and secure. GMM car parks offer free parking and are within walking distance of the festival site.
